He has a point about the Oscars viewership problem because the kinds of movies that generally get nominated for awards are the kinds of movies that are being overwhelmed by movies like Spider-Man, so no one sees them. No one was demanding Armageddon get nominated because at the time people also actually saw Good Will Hunting and Shakespeare in Love. But instead of recognizing what the point speaks to about how the blockbuster is devouring the landscape, he just doesn’t get why McDonald’s doesn’t also have 5 Michelin stars

 

I wonder if the guy who yelled about Parasite winning instead of Joker will watch Drive My Car.

I’d never try to be *loud* during trailers but yes the movie hasn’t started yet, fair game to talk

 

I always rip on the bad trailers when I go with friends, but yeah we’re not like trying to be loud about it

 

As far as unrealized projects go, I would’ve loved to see the movie by Alain Resnais and Stan Lee, which would’ve been about a Roger Corman style filmmaker falling in love while confronting a pollution monster. Stan (who was a chronic liar, so big grain of salt here) claimed it didn’t happen because Alain refused to accept studio notes on Stan’s script.

The idea of Alain Resnais doing a Spider-Man movie also was floated more than once, as early as the late 60s, but he loved the comics medium and didn’t think he could do the superhero genre justice. At one point Stan suggested Henry Winkler as the lead, which would’ve been a wild film, lol.

 

mine is the Sofia Coppola Little Mermaid movie but she realized the budget and studio control she would need to shoot underwater weren't for her

 

Basically any cancelled Guillermo Del Toro movie.

Beyond their monopoly or the quality of their movies and shows, the way they have weaponized identity is the most evil thing to me.

 

If you let disney consume your identity what hope was there for you anyway, the only other option was that youd be differently annoying.

 

“Disney Adults” are basically just “Beanie Baby Adults.” There’s no hope for them haha.
