Then why do you think teenagers see all kinds of movies?

There are still plenty of popular action franchises - Wick, MI, Bond, F&F, Kingsmen. Not to mention all the superhero shit, though I guess you could argue "superhero" movies are their own genre and only a handful qualify as full-throated "action" films, idk.

But yeah, big one-off action films that were more the standard in the 80s/90s aren't as common these days

 

This is reminding me of when I saw The Constant Gardener at the theater with my friend. Would have been 16. I was lost.

 

Why do you think they don't?

Teenagers do see certain kinds of movies more than others. Superhero, action, horror, and mainstream comedies are usually full of them, particularly at big chains like AMC. I see them less at independent theaters. Usually when I see something like A Ghost Story or Drive My Car, I’m the youngest person in the theater.

Luckily, I have a good amount of options around me. There are a couple theaters that always show smaller and mid-budget movies. Still, my local Cinemark has more Spider-Man showings than Macbeth, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, and West Side Story combined lol.
