I’ll say this: he’s more interesting than some other directors held in better esteem. Inarritu, Abrams, David O. Russell, heck Luhrman’s misses are more entertaining than Nolan or Fincher’s misses

If you put a gun to my head and told me to watch the Great Gatsby or Interstellar it'd easily be the Great Gatsby

Sure. I'm not big on Luhrman. But when talking about bad directors I enjoy his extravagant spectacle over those guys' empty nonsense.

Inarritu's Babel was one of the first films that really made me wonder where certain critical acclaim comes from. I thought people had watched a different movie.

I enjoy Romeo + Juliet, but I think that's due to the unintentional comedy factor of it. Gatsby is one of those movies that I've only seen in fragments when on HBO. His stylized vision is fun to watch, though there's much meat behind it. Not exactly a hot take I guess.

  18. I can’t think of a particular director where I enjoy all of their stuff.

I think there are some who have made no outright *bad* movies, even if their worst aren't particularly good. Off the top of my head - Kubrick, PTA, Tarantino, and Wright all come to mind. Like their worst movies would still be considered decent if made by directors without as high of highs

Just because I watched The Beguiled last night, Sophia Coppola has a great track record in my mind, everything's been great so far. Though I haven't yet seen Off the Rocks

I adore Coppola’s best work but her last three are my least favorite which is a concerning trend.

I think people were split on Bling Ring though
