The entire message of it is - America used to be the absolute greatest, and now we have become horrible. So literally MAGA, but said in a dramatic Sorkin-y way that draws liberals in

My answer is pretty easily The Office.

  4. It's just not my kind of humor and there's nothing to like in any of the characters for me. I get why people like it but sometimes I feel like it's trying to hard to be clever.

Community is great. Sometimes inconsistent but overall strong, not helped by the creative firings and hirings in the mid seasons. The Office I haven't seen every episode of, I stopped around season 5, but it was getting pretty awful.

I gave up on The Office when Stringer Bell came in, but it was getting bad when they introduced Andy. The show had run of ideas that were grounded in reality very quickly.

Do shows need to be grounded in reality to be good?

I’m not sure if I’ve seen all of the last 2 seasons of the Office but yeah that’s for sure up there. I don’t even think the “good” seasons have held up that well over time

first two seasons are excellent. third season isn’t far behind. fourth one is trash because harmon isn’t working on it. 5+6 have their issues but they’re mostly rock solid television

I was sticking through Community regardless. My thresehold is usually 3 to 4 seasons of not being totally hooked before i give up. I made an exception for The Office because of how people reacted when i said i havent seen it. Tbh i prefer that reaction to the one i get now

well the whole thing about The Office was that it was a close estimation of what a “real” office environment was like. There were only like 2 characters that were actually comedic/absurd, and even then it was still “grounded” in the sense that everyone can think of stories of working in an office with people /like/ Michael or Dwight. But over time they just turned everyone into a caricature

The Office wasnt very good when it was grounded in reality either.

Sure, and I don’t disagree with that. But whether it’s grounded in reality or not, it’s just a matter of the writing and humor being good or not.

I think it declined about halfway through the series but the reality of it wasn’t the issue to me, it was the writing.

The first two seasons of the Office are great. It’s not the absurdity that killed it; 30 Rock, the Simpsons, the best of Community, Atlanta, all are broad or absurd and work amazingly. But the Office went from regular people in mundane lives to broad sitcom stuff and sacrificed character and narrative for it

They never really had much character to begin with. I dont think being successful in your intention automatically means something is good. They set out to make realistic people, they were incredibly successful, problem is, real people suck.

I don't think the characters sucked. They were well drawn characters through the first three-ish seasons. Plenty of shows are about unlikable people or people I wouldn't necessarily want to hang out with.

    True Detective comes to mind.

First season was solid (that tracking shot scene is a hall of famer) but god I hated seasons 2 and 3 so much.

  24. Oh no, 3 was that bad? I keep hearing mixed things, idk if I should watch it

I thought season 1 was terrible tbh, so long winded and boring with no payout
