Finally watched "Thunder Road" last night and Jim Cummings rivals Adam Driver for best performance of man going through a divorce.

 

Thunder Road is so goddamn good

 

The thing Obama does every year of releasing ”his” yearly favorites lists is very weird. It’s like something Oprah would do

He obviously doesn’t read/watch/listen to all of that stuff. It’s like he just wants to be a hip Internet influencer, but he’s the president.

I should have added: to the extent he does consume it himself, he obviously has someone else filter things down for him so he knows *what* is relevant to consume. The movie lists especially give that away.

And I know because...it’s obvious? He’s a 60yo former President whose popular image has always revolved around a facade of him being hip. Do you still believe in Santa too?

 

Believing in Santa and believing that a person keeps up with popular culture are the exact same thing. Yes, you are correct.

 

I mean...I do that. A lot of people do that. There’s a lot of shit out there, so I read critics to know what’s worth spending my time on.

The lists aren’t just keeping up with popular culture, though. They are obviously tailored to include things that are simultaneously popular / mainstream and critically acclaimed. Again, the lists have always been efforts to maintain his image. He’s been doing this since his presidency. There isn’t some elaborate conspiracy here.

I would probably believe they were legit if he had some unanimous flops in there, like the Rambo movie or Cats.

Reading that list, imagining Obama doing the Suge dance and nodding my head because that seems reasonable

Obama has been trying to be a lifestyle brand for a long time. He is never going to be building houses like Jimmy Carter. The Netflix deal should have given it away.

Would be locks for my #1. Now I’ve gotta decide how to order them. What a year for movies.

 

Now that I've seen Uncut Gems the only movie I still really want to see before I finalize my list is Parasite. Is there anyway to legally watch it yet besides a theater? It's not playing anywhere around me
