I wonder if, with the transition into a new site, if we should do any type of TV season groupwatch thingy, actually try and complete one this time, haha.

Dude I'm horrible with any sort of organized watch on this site

Right? Me too. Like, is there even a point? Hahaha. We'd get through episode 2 and just forget. It happens every single time

Is there a name for the disorder I have in which I am universally interested in everything at once to the point where my queue is obscenely long and when I have free time to watch anything, I pick something random or garbage like reality tv?

Is this a common thing or should I talk to someone? Like, I got home late tonight and I have about 20 Criterion BD to watch, in addition to the numerous movies on my Netflix list and a million TV shows I haven't seen but have on a hard drive. I'm sitting here with the TV on mute listening to a critically panned hip hop tape and playing a game

Nope, it's totally all of us. Not everyone in the world, I mean, but everyone on a site like this. We're too voracious in our interests that we only have time for probably 5-10% of all the media we genuinely want to take in.

What I wouldn't give to be singularly focused and interested in one thing to the point of actually engaging in it

Depends on the pacing. I couldn't do more than about five episodes per week.

  10. Just finished Don't Trust the B---- in Apt. 23. Loved it. Finished Louie season 5 right before that, loved it as well. Are Love and Lady Dynamite good? Master of None was fantastic.

Just started Lady Dynamite but I'm enjoying it, Love had great writing but the lead characters are unlikable

Love and Lady Dynamite are both fantastic. Very different from each other. Love uses the surface textures of romantic comedies to subvert them and yeah, the leads can be horrible and grating (though I loved Gillian Jacobs' performance, especially by the end), and Lady Dynamite is absurdist and plays with convention and is just a fun, wild ride. I adore Maria Bamford.

  13. Love is good. Should sit well next to Master of None.

Yep I've been thinking of doing a Love rewatch soon. Apotow's best work in a while.

Watched the first episode of Love. I like it, but is it supposed to be funny at all? I think I came in with the wrong expectation. I'm not familiar with Apatow at all.

Edit: second episode was better. Still not funny, but I guess now I know not to expect that.

i'm not really a fan of Apatow's style. unsure of whether to start on anything new of his. plus there's dozens of unwatched things in my Netflix queue right now

I don't understand why FX can show the scene at the beginning of Wolf of Wall Street where Jordan's putting blow in a woman's ass, but they aren't allowed to say "fuck."
I thought they were airing it uncensored at first.

Anyone know when CNN is going to air the season finale of Parts Unknown? It was preempted by breaking news on Sunday and I don't see it listed this Sunday.

Just finished watching Naked Lunch. Def the most Cronenbergy of all the Cronenberg films I've seen thus far. Really interested to know the differences in the novel.

  25. Finished Love. I enjoyed it a lot. Not quite as much as I enjoyed Master of None and Louie. It's different. It's not all that funny, it's actually pretty depressing and very messy, and the characters are really unlikable. It's definitely not what I expected it to be, like a straightforward romcom. Once I took it for what it was, this kind of subversion of everything you'd expect to see from an on-screen romantic relationship, I looked forward to seeing how the main characters fucked everything up for each other in every episode. In light of that, I don't know how to feel about the ending. I guess it just complicates everything even further, and I'll probably have to take some time to process it. I like that the show really makes me think about a lot of things in the characters lives, and in my own. This is my first Apatow ever, I think, so I had no idea what I was walking into. As I expected, Gillian Jacobs was a big factor in how much I enjoyed it, but I must say, I'm pretty impressed with everything else about it as well.

edit: I liked. I've seen 40 Year Old Virgin. But that's it, that's all I've seen of his. It's probably not even a good representation of the rest of his work.
