Who would’ve thought Mario would be the most profitable film of 2023?

 

Also is the Riddick franchise like a money laundering scheme or something? It's been around almost 25 years and all of the movies so far have done mediocre at the box office at best, culturally they're not really talked about at all, and they've all been critically mixed. It boggles my mind why a 4th film is getting greenlit in 2024.

 

I’m pretty sure he finances it at least partially himself and he also owns the rights, so it’s basically him greenlighting them himself, I guess?

 

all that is true and I bet it still sounds less risky to investors than original IP

 

Dick Reddick

 

I only saw the Riddick movie with Katee Sackhoff. It was not good.

The only reason Diesel did Tokyo Drift was for the rights to the Riddick character. He is its biggest fan.

I remember the third one being made a puzzlingly long time after the first two.

 

His part in Saving Private Ryan is so jarring. The film is full of actors famous for many different roles but when you hear that voice it takes you out of the movie.

Yeah the third one came out in 2017 and was called " xXx: The Return of Xander Cage " which sounds like the name of a fake action movie within a movie. Like a movie the guy in Entourage would be in .

 

A guy I worked with named his kid Xander because of the xXx. He thought it sounded cool. He was a dumbass.

 

I had a friend who's parents named Alexander. We called him Zander made an X with our forearms. He didn't like it but it was too late

We made sure he knew we were spelling it with a Z. We did the X because we didn't want to rip if the Zultan sign from dude where's my car. He said that none of that made sense. We altered the greeting to doing the X and chanting "Zander with a Z"
