The guitar line that kicks off Crossing the Rubicon has been stuck in my head all day

Yeah, I think this is bonkers and is going to end up being one of my favourite records of the year.

  7. Yeah I kind of wish they had one longer song, especially around the last third, even if they cut some into two-pieces.

What I mean is that they need to pull off a The Mindsweep and go proggier on the next one, while keeping the experimental vibes of this one.

I just wish there was either a super heavy song right before or right after the king that built up and lasted around 4-5 minutes haha

This is very good. I still think Dreamers Hotel or TINA are my favourites, but this album surprised me.

I honestly wasn't expecting much after how disappointing The Spark was, but this is a great return to form.

I do prefer them when they are heavier but even if this doesn't really touch The Mindsweep or Common Dreads for me, it's really enjoyable.

The more I listen to this the more I actually think this might be my favourite Shikari album. I still miss their heavier side but jesus this album is just fucking immense

I doubt it'll overtake Common Dreads for me but it's got a good chance of taking second place. It's already top 3 for sure.

Driving on an absolutely empty interstate this afternoon, windows open with beautiful weather (it’s snowed 2 of the past 4 days), and this clicked even more.

The pop elements are even more catchy, especially in Rou’s vox (even almost soulful on Rubicon), the dance elements are more bopping, the electronics and song structures even more daring. I don’t even missed the scream vox like I did on The Spark. The lyrics are even more necessary and impactful now as well

Don’t think it can top Mindsweep or Dreads, but think it can rival AFFOC for the 3 spot.

Thinking about it it's probably Common Dreads = NITEIP > Mindsweep > TTTS > The Spark > AFFOC for me

TTTS is fun, but it's also objectively bad. There's some really forgettable/bad songs on there, alongside some ripper ones.

Not sure where the new one sits amongst the others, but I'd go

Common Dreads > The Spark > A Flash Flood of Colour >> The Mindsweep >>> Take to the Skies.

Did you just say...an album was objectively bad? Hey man, it's a pretty middling album for me, but saying saying something like that just is silly.

I don't think it's bad because it's fun, but if someone was listening to that album for the first time now, I can imagine it would be very easy to dislike it. It's not the album I'd tell people to listen to first if I wanted to get them into Enter Shikari, that's for sure. I genuinely think nostalgia impacts the way a lot of people look at that album because it's raw as hell, even though it does in certain moments show a sign of things to come.

It's a very up and down album, and it's my least favourite Shikari album, nowhere near as consistent or as concise as the others.

I just think it's wild go say that "objectively".

  23. So far my ranking would go like this:

    The Spark
    The Mindsweep
Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible
    Take To The Skies
    Common Dreads
    A Flash Flood Of Colour

I can see Nothing Is True at #3

I really don't know where to put Take To The Skies, pretty much every other album is better but I still got so much nostalgia for it. I guess in the middle it will be fine.

  24. The Mindsweep would be #1 if the 2013 singles were included. The peak of heavy Enter Shikari.

I'm really baffled by how many people like Mindsweep. I can think of four or five songs I really like off it, but that's it.
