So last night we were eating pesto pasta for dinner, when my 2 year old tells me her mouth hurts. I look over and see her eyelids and lips swelling up. My wife and I start freaking out and screaming at each other looking for the kids Benadryl. Finally I said screw it and threw her in the car and speed off to the ER. I was asking her silly questions the whole time to keep her talking so I knew she was breathing. By the time we got there she could no longer talk, her eyes were completely swollen shut, and she was gasping for air as she was crying.
I ran her in the front doors screaming at the top of my lungs “Nut allergy, nut allergy!!!” The lady at the front desk scrambled for the phone while a guy took off in a mad sprint. Doctors and nurses rushed out and squirted 2 syringes down her throat and put her on oxygen.
Once her vitals normalized and the swelling stopped it was such an emotional sigh of relief I just fell to my knees and started balling my eyes out. We had to stay a few hours for monitoring, that’s why my like game was so strong last night haha

She’s had pesto before but it’s always been a different brand, looking at the ingredients of this one it had cashews not just pine nuts
(Maybe that’s what caused it?)

It was by far the most terrifying experience of my life, I hope none of you ever have to experience that. Please learn my mistakes and read the labels of new foods you give your kids, and call 911 if they have a reaction like that. The way I was driving I could’ve easily gotten in an accident and made things much worse. I just freaked out and wasn’t thinking straight at all. holy shit man, I'm so sorry you had to go through that.

My daughter is allergic to peanuts, cashews and pistachios and possibly other nuts that I'm forgetting and this is my worst fear.

I'm happy to hear that she's feeling better now.

Damn dude I echo everyone else's thoughts thankful you acted so quickly. I can only imagine how stressful and scary that must of been. Glad she's doing ok now.

I was allergic to cashews when I was younger and even though I've been tested and I'm not anymore I haven't had any since. Nut allergies/reactions can be so scary.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your concern. She’s doing great today(though my back hurts from sleeping on the floor in her room all night. Haha) and we are going in for allergy testing this afternoon
I thought my wife was over reacting when she had us give her peanut butter for the first time in the parking lot of the hospital, but it’s no joke. From the time we noticed something was wrong to the time she was struggling to breath at the ER only 10 minutes had passed.

Being a parent is scary.
