ehhh... between insurance, taxes and maintenance I really think it's about even with renting or owning a condo/apartment.

more square feet and waaaay more headaches.

I guess I'll just have to retire my account at that point. I'll have lost everything

I mean you still have to pay insurance, taxes, and maintenance when you own a condo, you just pay for it in a different form. And then, all you really own is the space between the walls, not even the walls themselves.

The real travesty here is how good his ratio is.

I agree that it's about the same amount of money as renting depending on where you're living, the difference is that you're gaining equity in that property. I have a rental property in El Paso and it's been kind of a nightmare due to issues that have come up with bad tenants and other issues, but if I could afford to buy a house here in Austin I would have because I'm paying $1500 a month to rent a house and the mortgage on a house this size would probably be about $1100. even at $400 worth of maintenance/repairs per month it's worth it.

I know the math doesn't work like this everywhere though. also I loved owning my house because we could do whatever we wanted to it.

I'm at a 2.83 ratio trying to get to 3.0 then I'll know the countless hours I've spent on this website/thread will have been worth it.

Sounds like LD will be distributing his likes more strategically when it comes to @Kingjohn_654 to maintain his cushion on the notable members list. Interesting development we've got here if I do say so myself.

Anyone remember the battle of the John's I tried to orchestrate in the Sci Fi thread? Fun times.

Can we do that again soon? Maybe which John will get to 1:3 ratio first?

Yeah, my current mortgage payment is $20 less/month than the rent I was paying on an apartment that was much smaller , and my mortgage payment includes amortized payments for taxes and insurance.

I'm also lucky in that my two of my friends/neighbors own a contractor business together and can provide maintenance at a low or no cost, or tell me whether and how to do it myself.

We had some damn good times in that thread. The night of the High & Low festival is a definite highlight for me. @Bloodsucker II @ComedownMachine can't remember the others that were there and us on chorus watching the live stream. What a night that was.

I don't understand how people don't absolutely adore Bleachers music. I'm instantaneously in a good mood when I listen to them.

yeah, this is part of my calculations too. I'm pretty handy and can DIY most repairs/maintenance anyway for parts only cost, or make a brother help me with lunch as payment. If I had $25,000 in the bank for a down payment I'd buy a house.

The new Boston Manor song is pretty good. Mike Sapone is working with them. Excited for that.
