I just listened to the album for the first time in a while and I think Xenon is still the only weak point for me. The rest of the album is fantastic. Doomed User has some of Steph's best riffing to date. Also, the end of the title track is heavy as shit and still floors me.

Hearts/Wires has a very WP/ST feel to me.

Hadn't visited this thread in too long. I'm glad the love is still going strong.

Does anyone else regularly listen to Smile? Really fun track. Always bummed thinking about a long lost Chi album but at least we have that track.

We reach for the longest shadow

Acid Hologram, Hearts / Wires, and Gore are probably my top 3, but Doomed User, Phantom Bride, and Rubicon are right on their heels.

Still can't get into Gore. Chino's voice sounds off the whole album and I always get bored halfway through it.

We reach for the longest shadow

I could see that from 6-8 maybe, but I would definitely recommend giving the last 3 tracks a listen. It goes out with a bang.

Likewise. Last time Chino was asked in an interview he talked about how they didn’t have a complete album, nor was it in the band’s interest to push Sergio to learn Chi’s parts for songs they’ve not revisited in years. Also pretty sure they weren’t fully convinced it was their best work.

  13. I have fully acknowledged that Gore is the definition of a grower at this point, but I'm listening to it now and holy moly, this record is so fucking wild. Has there ever been a major-key Deftones riff quite like "Xenon" or the chorus of "Pittura Infamante"? "Doomed User" is outrageously heavy, and the Transformers voice in "Acid Hologram" totally reminds me of "Elite." I think I've mentioned it before, but there are more moments on this record than any other that remind me of White Pony. Anyways, yeah, definitely top five for them if not top three.

Uh-oh, starting to feel a Deftones tattoo coming on

edit: also, the guitar tones on the intro to "L(MIRL)" are to die for

  14. Never noticed the "Hexagram" reference in "Rubicon"!!! Amazing closer

Phantom Bride was the big standout on Gore for me, but yea it has a bunch of others like Rubicon, Hearts/Wires and Acid Hologram

    ‘Phantom Bride’ is Gore’s ‘Beware’.

Also can Jerry just join Deftones and solo over everything?

Fans didn't like it? News to me

If I could just forget it

It was somewhat divisive among the older fan base, mostly having to do with the production and the perceived absence of Steph. Something like this seems to happen with all their albums though. The Adrenaline diehards were skeptical of ATF, White Pony wasn’t aggressive enough compared to ATF, and so on.

Gore did seem to get a more lukewarm reception than anything I can remember since at least SNW. I thought it was really solid, but the production hurt it (moreso than the past several LPs, none of which had stellar production themselves).

  24. It wasn’t well received from fans outside of Chorus - where I believe a majority of us really like it.

    I'll change this eventually Prestigious

Deftones worst fans are the ones who strictly worship the Adrenaline / ATF era.

Gore is fantastic and I'm waiting for that next one.
