Slight bummer, but he is free to do or not do anything with DC. Hope he finds/writes/directs a cool project soon. That Nike one doesn’t look like it to me haha

He's clearly just holding out for his true dream job: a Sony film about a d-list Spidey villain.

I’ve always liked James Gunn. And I’m confident that he will bring the emotional depth to the character that I want.

That said, I definitely have a good deal of skepticism about the tone and whether Gunn’s humor will be a match. But I think it should be at least interesting. Which I didn’t find any of the Snyder films to be.

As much as people focus on the irreverent, low brow humor, I really think that emotional sincerity & striking visuals are equally parts of Gunn’s cape film style. And, his humor will be perfect if it’s mostly focused onto a proper Jimmy Olsen. Is there a fair chance someone mentions Superman’s “underwear” (assuming they get his costume right)? Sure, but I think the tone will mostly be right.

[Wild to me that you don’t find Snyder DC “interesting,” tbh. That stuff is sometimes cool, sometimes bad, and surely grating to a lot of people, but it’s also deeply “interesting,” especially compared to most other modern corporate superhero flicks.]

A lot Snyder stuff just devolves into a CGI battle in a city being destroyed. Clearly, not exclusive to Snyder. But his are always so boring visually most of the time. My brain just shuts down. It’s hard to call his films interesting due to that, at least for me. Again, devolving to a massive CGI fest is pretty common in comic book movies, especially Marvel. The character stuff is what sets the good ones apart from the bad ones, for me. And Snyder is TERRIBLE with characters. So his fall on the bad side for the most part.

I mean, I don’t see how the post credit scene having different characters would have helped the movie make that much more money.

Granted I haven’t seen any of these movies but I have a hard time seeing the Rock as anything but The Rock. It’s established that he’s basically himself in every movie. And I’m fine with that. Give me a stupid movie about The Rock fighting a fuckin volcano and I’ll be there with some popcorn or at least watch it on streaming. But I don’t buy him as Black Adam or Hercules or some other established character because all I see is the peoples champ

Like, even if they meant that using a post-credits scene to hype Shazam 2 would've helped Shazam 2, that would require people to have seen Black Adam first. Which they didn't. So it's all a bit of a moot point.

I think the guy just really wanted to write an article.

I don’t think it would’ve made a big difference (with or without Gunn & Safran), but I do find it fascinating that The Rock was reportedly being that stubborn.

Looks real good. Actively excited for this Marvel...erm...DC movie.

I didnt really like the trailer. Part of it may be youtube compression issues but it has the look and feel of a cheap Netflix original movie aimed at a child/family audience. Not really the vibe I want in theatrical superhero movies these days. Saying all this as someone that knows absolutely nothing about the Blue Beetle character.

Pretty sure it was originally planned as an HBO Max exclusive, similar to Batgirl, so that checks out.
