  1. Finished S4 of Young Justice. A lot of great character stuff throughout the season. The show tackles a lot of subject matter with deep empathy for these characters, which I love. I also dug the sort of 4-ep mini arc structure they did. Makes a 26 episode season easier to digest, especially with how many characters they juggle. I'm sad there likely won't be any more of this show.

Also just finished Harley Quinn's latest season. A lot of the season felt somewhat directionless, which is mostly fine since the humor is still on point and I like hanging with these characters. Last few eps were strong.

I've missed having Kite Man around. Bane is excellent when he's around though

  6. I've been catching up all the recent DC animated movies. So far I've run through Superman: Man of Tomorrow, Batman: Soul of the Dragon, Justice Society: WWII, The Long Halloween 1 & 2, and Injustice. Haven't loved any of them, but they've all been enjoyable enough. Up next are the Catwoman, Green Lantern, and Battle of the Super Sons movies.

I'm not really sure what the status of DC animation is post-Gunn. I know there are a few releases slated for this year already (Legion of Superheroes drops next week), and I know of the projects Gunn announced. Will the Tomorrowverse be effectively ended? Will we still get these random standalone animated stories like Soul of the Dragon and Injustice? Either way, I'm trying to watch them all while I can since I'm scared of HBO Max removing these movies from their service at any moment with little notice.

Seems like the output will likely change at some point to accomodate animated projects set in the new DCU... but other things will also still exist? I have trouble believing the "Tomorrowverse" or whatever will still be a priority in a few years, once we're in the midst of the new proper cross-media DCU. But, at least some kinda non-DCU projects (I'm guessing mostly the standalone ones) will keep coming, likely with an "Elseworlds" label somewhere.

I haven’t gotten around to watching one of those DC animated movies in years. However, the new Legion one is written by Josie Campbell, whose New Champion of Shazam! comic was in the conversation for best superhero comic of 2022 imo. So, since I’m in a big Superman Family kick and thought the animation on Kara looked great, I gave it a shot.

Pretty decent, fun enough, will probably revisit it at some point. But, wow, something about the tone they’ve landed on feels weird. A lot about it seems ostensibly aimed for younger viewers, which feels appropriate for a DC superhero cartoon. But then, it’ll randomly have elements that push it to PG-13 and make it potentially tougher for a younger child? Idk, I don’t know that a Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes cartoon needs blood and language, lol. Weird tonal dissonance there.

  10. Watched Catwoman: Hunted. There's some fun to be had, but overall it was just ok. If an anime style Catwoman movie with Stephanie Beatriz voicing Batwoman and Jonathan Banks voicing Black Mask sounds appealing, check it out I suppose.

Interested in what makes it Adult Swim worthy. Raunchy humor? Extreme violence?

Did not know this was happening, but now reading about it, I'm intrigued by two things: Michael Emerson as Brainiac, and the fact that they don't have anyone playing Lex Luthor from what I can see.

I'm shocked if that's true, that a piece of Superman media is being made without Lex as a part. Awesome if true though, give his other rogues some time to shine.

I assume it's just a matter of trying to better market to their target audience.

One of the producers confirmed they're not doing Lex for season 1. Probably will show up eventually if they end up going past one season, but I'm a big fan of them focusing on some other villains
