Happiness is finally connecting with me a bit, though, "Let's make believe that we are capable of parallel galaxies" might be my least favorite line from any of the unclean vocalists. Both the delivery, and lyric itself are kind of bad (in my opinion at least). I like Will Swan's screaming more than early Mess's though, and I like how much more focus is on Kurt's cleans than any uncleans on the album.

 

Happiness is my fav. I like Jon but really enjoy happiness the most.

 

Favorite albums for me are DBM, Happiness, and Instant Gratification. The Self-Titled and Whatever I Say are my least.

 

I like Jon, but I like Jon DMBII and forward. I prefer Will to DBM and Deathstar Jon though. Happiness is a cool album though, it's weird that it's only available on the DGD merchnow site on CD at this point unless you want to pay $30-$40 for it. But whatever, just happy to have them all. (Except Whatever I Say which I don't think I plan to get)

 

One from each vocalist is pretty solid. I want to sit with the whole bunch for a bit before I decide on a ranking though.

 

I'm happy I have the boxset. I have it signed by Jonny so I need all the others. I was considering selling it and getting just the single albums, but now the single albums are all ridiculously priced

 

Functioning people is a great line

 

I used to hate the functioning people line, but Tree City Sessions made me change my mind on it. Still not my favorite though. Honestly don't think this band has too many good lyrics. Though, I'm getting better at being okay with bad lyrics thanks to bands like DGD and Sleeping with Sirens.

 

Happiness > self-titled >> the rest.

Kurt DGD was peak DGD. I've realized that more recently. Still love all the eras of this band though.

 

I still prefer Tilian, just think he's the best fit and I think he'll actually stay with the band. Kurt is becoming a close second for me though. Jonny obviously has the best voice of the group, but he's my least favorite.

 

Yeah, Jonny really is proof that a great voice only gets you so far if you don't put in the effort to push yourself further as an artist, at least imo. If he had constantly expanded his artistic and stylistic range and really worked on his vocals and songwriting (in addition to not being a shitty person of course), I legitimately think he could be huge right now.

 

Jonny has a voice that could easily make him a star. Like, he seriously has one of the best voices I've ever heard. But he's made so many poor life and creative choices that he's never really broken into anything bigger than DGD. He could easily win a show like The Voice, or be the voice behind a top 40 hit, or hell, just be at the top of the scene he's never really left. But here he is, still struggling to keep a post-hardcore band he started together after 10 years. I honestly half expected Slaves to kick him out and replace him like DGD and Emarosa did. hahaha

 

Agreed with all of those!! Funnily enough he tried out for The Voice and made it past the initial auditions, then they found out he had a felony at the time (which was apparently later tossed out), and he didn't advance to the next round. Then I saw on his Twitter that he got an email the following year asking him to try out again or something to that affect, and he posted it on his Twitter like "ha ha fuck The Voice, I don't need them"... like it was their fault that they had a policy against having convicted felons on their show, or that he had a felony conviction at the time. Dude's mindset is just fucked.

 

I do wish The Voice had aired his initial audition though, that would've been interesting as hell to see haha

 

I had no idea he tried out for the voice. Why the fuck wouldn't you go back after the felony is dropped? Like, that would be the smartest career choice possible for him. At the same time though, maybe all that fame would have killed him. It's just hard to gauge things with the dude. I would have liked to have known a pre-DGD Jonny just for context on who he is now.

 

I remember him saying that he was gonna try out for the voice, and wondered what happened.

 

Hopefully this new DGD album is announced soon.

 

That's what I'm saying... what a strange move to not only not try out again, but openly mock the show on Twitter.

 

All on vinyl? Nice. I haven't bought any as I dont' listen to them that much but I do enjoy the band a lot. They put on a good show. I'm a big fan of Tilian.

No, all CD. haha I don't have any DGD vinyl. I like the band a lot, but I've never felt the need for one of their albums on vinyl. I usually listen to them when I'm driving home from my girlfriend's house (it's always a late night drive, leave about 1:30am, get home about 3:00am) so CD is the best option for me.

 

Good call! I still buy CDs for that exact reason. I use spotify a lot in the car but CD sounds better.

My car doesn't have AUX or bluetooth, so I have to do the CD's. haha I have this absurdly large CD case full of burned CD's, and then also have CD's I didn't duplicate that I bring when I feel like it or it's something new.

Yeah, been doing the drive at least once a week since January of 2015. I definitely love her. haha

Yeah, I'd say so. My roommate just got married and he's moving out but he was driving 3 hours on the weekends to his lady. Or he'd take a bus. You people are crazy :)/

 

I'm up to like 300 CD's I own. I get the people like "Why would you buy CD's when iTunes and Spotify exist?". I have about 58 records too, which get even more confused responses. hahaha

That's awesome. I wanna marry my girlfriend I think but I don't know. Needa figure out some stuff with my health and such first. I'm definitely crazy though. xD

 

I'm expecting a September release for DGD VIII

Really excited to hear what they have in store this time around as I really enjoyed Instant Grat.

I was listening to Purple Reign today and it reminded me of the first time hearing that song. I remember listening to the album the whole way through and then the ending of Purple Reign came on. For me, it made me think that it was the last album we'd ever get from DGD. something about that ending really seemed "final". "Got a sense that this is overdone".
