Would You Still Be In Love?

I guess the production on Acceptance Speech doesn't blatantly bother me like DB2 and Artificial Selection do.

I think some of it is because Demo Team and Carve are awful.

the only thing wrong with the production on acceptance speech is the super muddy guitars. not a lot of presence to them. tilian's vocals are treated like pop vocals, seeing as malpass produced it and he does tilian's pop oriented solo work. its an interesting contrast to a lot of the heavier music on that record. the drums are tight, the low end is a little lacking due to all the mud, wish the bass was more prominent. but, the songwriting overpowers any production problems and personally i think tilian sounds wonderful, as he does on every album he sings on.

You know Carve is kinda amazing and bad at the same time. Its like Taco Bell or something. I just revisited it. Its like I somehow enjoyed it mostly even though it smacks me in the face with its Rise-core-ness. I didnt think they needed to be doing stuff like that at the time and I still dont but hell if they cant make nearly anything fun. Its weird. This band is sort of an insane anomaly.

I feel like it isn't all that different from what they had always done before that album.

Idk the heavy parts of downtown battle mountain are kind of in that classic scene post hardcore style that carve is

I love the way the guitars sound on AS. I got away from DGD a bit during the Kurt era but as soon as the intro to Jesus h Macy hit me I was way back in.

Also every second of carve is great. Love when they go extra heavy.

And I Told Them has a chug breakdown at the end yeah. Am I missing any more?

I think theres a single one on Deathstar and Happiness each also totalling like 10 seconds run time.

Carve and Demo Team are entire songs built out of that.

Instant Grat and Mothership have a fair bit of that too as sections.

there’s so much more to it than the chugs that’s a ridiculously reductive and narrow way to have this conversation

Honestly I really find it interesting the way they’ve incorporated the more mainstream metal core parts in their last four albums, but still maintaining them classic DGD vibes

I dont think whatever other heavy stuff they did before was “classic scene” or generic.

I think a whole song built out of chugs is generic through at least some lenses. Their label has signed dozens of bands who thats what their sound is.

Carve isn’t generic and their early work wasn’t influenced by nothing, there’s plenty of classic scene shit on wisiro and dbm /shrug

What whole song is built on that? I wouldn’t even say Carve is. Mess kinda crafts the flow with his vox

yeah carve is just more vocal driven than a lot of their more complex instrumental tracks

Honestly tho Turn off the Lights pt.2 is my favorite closer from them. Man it’s been a while since I’ve re visited AS1.

Carve would fit right in on DBM or even S/T

I cant even remember wisiro. Never again.

DBM is definitely post hardcore first. I know what you mean.

I think you know what I mean too. The metalcore stuff seeped in and Im not a fan of it. I think it would be better without it. Its as simple as that for me.

Then again Carve is somehow still endearing.

I was just discussing my favorite closers. Hard to choose between powder, people you know, evaporate, and lights pt 2

The last like two minutes of guitars in powder to the people is absolutely mind bending as a guitarist. Will and zac bouncing all around each other on happiness is what makes that album so unique
