lenses & WTAM are two of the most interesting & innovative rock albums in the past ten years. lenses does things that no other piece of music does

LOSE is arguably up there as well

not saying this record isn't great, just that it has a really high bar to set

Agreed 100% although LOSE is my favorite. I went from this being my favorite to it coming in around 4th probably. Maybe 3rd

I haven't listened to this enough to really know where it places for me.

lenses = lose > WTAM > pretty years for me

WTAM is excellent musically and I think their most cohesive record (in the sense that every moment on it is essential and in the right place) but it doesn't really affect me strongly and the storytelling isn't very compelling

I think the first half of WTAM is the strongest thing this band has done but overall LOSE is definitely my favorite and is the one I have the strongest emotional connection to. Lenses has still yet to click with me for whatever reason but I think it's a really impressive record nonetheless. I really just need to listen to Pretty Years more, I've only listened two or three times all the way through because there's just been SO much music coming out recently... I can't keep up lol.

  12. damn, i think i gotta accept that wtam is the only ceg album i don't love

Wtam is cool to me bc it's a good blend of their weirder and catchier sides. Sort of like a prototype lose. Plus hazy sea is a top 3 cymbals track

I love how diverse this band is but none of the albums feel like huge seismic shifts for me. Not even Pretty Years, even though I think that can be attributed to having a ton of time with Wish and just expecting something different as a result. But they've been weird since day one so like the only thing that would seem outright bizarre is something generic. Good band. The only one I can't claim to love is WTAM but not for lack of quality as much as I've spent the least amount of time with it.

Exactly how I felt. The amount of energy in that tiny room was unreal. What'd you think of Field Mouse? I didn't know anything by them before seeing them and now their album may make my top 10 haha.

Ha, oddly enough Episodic was likely already in my top 10. I only recently latched onto them, but it did happen earlier this year so I was a huge fan of both that and Hold Still Life going in. They crushed it as well; great blend of new/older stuff, the live mixing was on point so the melodies shined and the triple guitars totally fucking soared. So glad they closed with "Out of Context," I was scared they may not play it and that song is my everything. Pinegrove-level love for it from me, haha.

Also, all three of these bands had incredible drumming. My lord, CEG guy was doing some masterful stuff, clean 64th notes, quintuplets, goddamn. Dude clearly is from a jazz background.

    But yeah, amazing show overall.

I loved watching CEG drummer because he's such a sick drummer and he also makes the best faces whilst he's playing
