I really wish they’d release a Twin version that’s already synced up. I always had a hard time getting the timing right

    Fight the long defeat.

Can anyone help me understand the message behind Like I Want You? Aesthetically, I've always liked the track, but the lyrics feel contradictory to me. I hear the first lines with an almost sarcastic thrust (i.e. "like I want you, like I ever did" = "as though I ever wanted you"). Obviously, that clashes with this person taking the speaker's fear and breath away, so I feel that I must be missing something.

What does that track mean to you?

I’m terrible at analyzing lyrics, but it sounds to me like someone in denial. It actually reminds me a lot of one of my past relationships. I loved her to death, but I knew we weren’t right for each other and I was both relieved and deeply saddened when we first broke up. I was just conflicted. I wanted to love this person but I didn’t, not in that way.

The album as a whole, for me, represents the dullness, guilt, fear, and confusion one might feel as they come to terms that their long-term relationship is their permanent situation. If I recall correctly, Aaron said that Ordinary was about feeling empty when everything around him should be making him happy. I always listened to the album as though it were a journey toward accepting love from the one person who loves you, and choosing to regard that person as someone who also needs you to be there.

There are a lot of perfect songs on Ixora.

It’s great. Didn’t quite stick with me like YAMS but it’s an excellent comeback.

I remember now. It’s Erase, it’s great on the original release but the Twin version is just in a different stratosphere.

I think Ixora is their best album

  11. Yeah lots of really emotionally intense memories tied to Ixora, three years ago around this time was a very strange period in my life.

It's a nearly perfect album though and I'd imagine the pressure to follow it up is insane, not many bands in this scene get the response they did for a return album

Ordinary has an amazing take on it on Twin, and it sounds great mixed together!

For some reason I never really consider Copeland one of my favorite bands but then fall rolls around and I throw on YAMS or Ixora and I remember they're one of my favorite bands

I’ve been re-visiting this band’s discography lately and my opinions on their albums have changed quite a bit, it turns out. Since Ixora’s release, I’ve claimed it as my favorite of their records, but it hasn’t really been doing as much for me lately. I feel like maybe that album is more suitable for winter than late summer/Fall (which I feel suits all their others), idk. As of right now, I would rank In Motion, ESR, and YAMS pretty much equally at the top of their discography. If I had to pick just one “best” Copeland record it’d probably be YAMS, but tbh that could change depending on the day. Right now, Ixora is a tier below those three for me and BMT is several tiers below that. Aside from a few songs, that album is actually kind of hard for me to get through anymore... however, Coffee is a top 5 Copeland song for me so I’m still glad it exists.

I look at Copeland records in tiers too, except. Top tier is ESR, YAMS and Ixora. Second is BMT and bottom is In Motion. In Motion has never clicked with me anywhere near as much as the others have. Idk why. No One Really Wins is one of my favorite Copeland songs though.

Damn. In Motion has some of the best pop-rock/whatever songs I’ve ever heard imo. Only miss on there for me is Kite. I think it does pretty much everything they tried to do on BMT and does it sooooo much better. No One Really Wins, Pin Your Wings Down, Sleep, Don’t Slow Down, and You Have My Attention are all some of my favorite Copeland songs. Idk, so many earworms on there for me.
