    missing out

I can't stop listening to "Mamah Borthwick (A Sketch)" lately, the guitar part goes with it really well and it just has some great lines. Maybe my new favourite, after having some more time with the album.

I think that would be my favorite if I had to pick one right now. I love this part:

Every time I tempt fate there’s a major earthquake
Heard the people scream as the ceiling fell
Every building damaged only one left standing
It was Frank Lloyd Wright’s Imperial Hotel

    Not here. Isn't happening. Supporter

As usual with Conor Oberst, this album has really grown on me and I currently love it. I was overwhelmed today with this realization of just how much music I absolutely love that this one person is responsible for. He's on a short list for me for sure.

Anyone else recognize the piano part at the end of the first chorus of "The Rain Follows the Plow" as the same one from "Ladder Song"?

Wonder if that's intentional or just coincidence.

I can definitely see this album finding a spot in my top ten at the end of the year.

Trying to find the RSD 7" at a decent price. Really want to hear those tracks.

Will be searching Chicago for that release tomorrow. Hoping one store has a copy.

Seeing him play the record tomorrow too.

Any links you care to share? I'm keen on hearing this full band alternate version.

EDIT: Scratch that...found it online at Looney Tunes as well.

I thought this was good but not great when I first listened to it. A couple of months on and this is easily a top 10 album of the year for me. It's his most focused record since I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning and as a result it's also his most consistent release in almost a decade. I'd say this is probably his 3rd or 4th best album overall.

I can't lie, I am pretty excited about the rumored full-band versions of these songs that may possibly be released.

Yeah it ended somewhere around the same for me.
You've heard rumors of there being more than one full-band version? The only I know of is Tachycardia, which was released on the Record Store Day 7".

Nothing official at all. I was looking on Reddit to hear the RSD 7" songs and a user claiming to be in-the-know was saying that there are full-band versions of the whole album and that they are going to see release in the near future. Obviously the whole thing needs to be taken with an enormous grin of salt, but still. The fact that he recorded and released a version of Tachycardia that way kind of shows he's at least given the possibility some thought.

It would make sense if there are full band versions of the record. If there really are, hopefully they do get an official release.

I've gotten to the point where I can't finish listening to this because it strikes me as so profoundly sad and I can't deal with it. I've never had something affect me that way and I'm not sure what that says about the album (or me)

Actually I don't find it anywhere near as sad or dark as most of his Bright Eyes material. Lifted... always has and always will wreck me.

Are the songs from the RSD 7" available to buy digitally anywhere?

Like this record even more after finding out the record cover is a slight nod to Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska.

I need to listen to this again but I feel like this is one of his better lyrical performances based on my first reactions, it's still a little soon
