I'm watching this again and I kinda like s4 more every time around. the bad stuff is really bad but it honestly has some of the best episodes in the show too

 

what episodes in particular do you think are among the best in the show?

 

the Halloween one, Herstory of Dance and Freaky Friday are all up there for me. Intro to Knots is also really good and underrated

 

I agree those are the best of the season for sure, I just think there are way better episodes from other seasons

 

that is definitely the standard take, I just disagree lol. wonder if more people would agree with me if s4 didn't have the gas-leak stink over all of it, I don't see a difference between any of those episodes and standard Community quality

 

S4 is terrible. It’s the “we have Community at home” season.

 

s4 is very horrible

s5&6, however, are fantastic and rarely get the respect they deserve

With s6 in particular, it reminds me of a line Tina Fey once said about 30 Rock needing to jump the shark immediately to become what it needed to be. s6 of Community is like the show jumping the shark but in a way that completely works

 

all 3 are good

 

Season 4 is worse every time I watch it. Only episode that I would put up with the average quality of the Harmon seasons is Herstory of Dance.

 

Herstory of Dance is better than some early season episodes. Such a sweet ending.

 

I think Season 4 is simultaneously a fair bit better than it gets credit for while also being far worse than the rest of the show. The cast’s chemistry is always too good for it to ever truly suck in the way that another show might suck.

 

Yeah, any other show would have been cancelled after that season. The fact that the actors managed to make chicken soup (sometimes) out of chicken shit should be applauded.

Didn’t it still have the same writers as before? They just didn’t have Harmon to filter out the worst of it.

 

one of Harmon's funniest quotes was saying watching season 4 was like watching his family get raped on a beach

he got so much shit for it too

 

And rightly so

 

I feel bad for season 4 because imo, they probably felt the need to tackle some stuff like Jeff’s Dad since there was almost no chance the show would be back for another season.

And I do remember reading an interview with Andy Bobrow where he basically said “oh great, I’m gonna be the head writer on the worst season of Community.”

 

Always felt like season 5 started strong and fell off, and season 6 took a while to hit its stride but ended great. there’s at least one excellent season’s worth of episodes between the two.

I’ve never rewatched s4, don’t remember anything being good other than the Brie Larson ep

 

The convention one was alright.

 

On rewatches, S6 is actually my favorite season
