I was lucky enough to get tickets when on holiday in NY to see Please Don’t Destroy & Mike Birbiglia do live improv at UCB.

Those guys were super funny. However, there’s always a risk with crowd participation. I’ve never been to an improv show where I’ve heard so many crowd stories and went “why the F would you volunteer that story”. Probably about 4 in a row I was like “what the f*ck”. Some of them were just vibe killers or messed up stories. They did well to work with what they were given I must say!

 

Never would have imagined a few years ago that John Mulaney and Chappell Roan would do a TikTok video together.

Man, I cannot get a read on Bill Burr these days lol I loved him in college, I do think he's genuinely really talented, but I kind of tuned out after that Paper Tiger special because he was complaining about snowflakes and shit. But then he also seemed to call out Kill Tony (and Rogan) pretty immediately when he was on their show and generally seems to have a good head on his shoulders when he's not defending his friends? I really don't know

The important thing about Burr is even when I don’t really agree with him, he’s still being funny about it. He’s not just ranting and saying shit things and then claiming it’s a joke.

 

I mean you’re allowed to like someone and not agree with every single thing they say lol (as long as they’re not a piece of shit)

 

I get why Bill Burr is annoyed that people assume he's Conservative because he's a man in his 50s from Boston lol, but yeah he's actually funny and seems like a nice enough person

 

His Netflix movie was a real bummer. It felt like, in wanting to follow the ‘correct’ tropes and structure and character development of a movie, he ended up leaning into sincere straight-forward boomer comedy for long stretches and his usual great self-critique and subversion is relegated to the cheesy ‘character realizing they may have been going about things wrong’ story beat towards the end of the movie. His cartoon did a much better job of handling that and mining the comedy from making fun of a POV instead of just adopting that POV and doing it straightforward as the comedy.
