O'Doherty is a perfect podcast guest

 

It's insane how quick on her feet she is with improvised bits. She's like ten steps ahead of everyone and has a reply ready for every joke.

 

Yep. And even on Doughboys where she wasn't doing any sort of character or anything, she was just as quick and funny.

 

I've been meaning to get around to that podcast forever. Might as well jump in with her episode tonight.

So many great episodes in those first 13 seasons. It was the first podcast I ever listened to.

 

Bo Burnham's new special is up. I was going to bed. Dammit.

 

I don't think I noticed how fucking artistic Make Happy was when I was in the audience for it. I don't even think I'd call it a comedy special, it's a pure one-man show about happiness and art and it's incredible. When I saw it live I was incredibly impressed and moved by the ending Kanye-esque rant, but here I was literally on the verge of tears by the end of it. The ending of the special after he leaves the stage took me by surprise but that song was absolutely beautiful and actually did have me tearing up.

I personally don't think he'll ever top what. for me (the songs here aren't quite up to par with the ones from that show besides the ones I mentioned, and I also loved the opening once it got introspective, Straight White Male, Lower Your Expectations and Kill Yourself, which he didn't play at my show, but the Breakup bit was a little too similar to Left Brain Right Brain but not as good and I thought the PB&J bit went on too long and wasn't that funny, an opinion I also had when I actually saw the show), but it's still an absolutely incredible piece of work. Sorry for the longest parenthesis of all time, hopefully you understood the format of this paragraph lol.

EDIT: Forgot about the Country Song, which is a great sequel of sorts to Repeat Stuff, and that salt and vinegar joke was fucking hilarious and clever

I could easily see this being Bo's last standup special. As much as I want him to keep doing it forever, this would be a perfect way to end that aspect of his career. I certainly know I'll follow him to whatever he does.

 

Same here. I didn't expect it to get so deep. Loved it.

 

Can't wait to go home and watch it. I think I'm probably going to have similar thoughts to @tdlyon - I saw both What. and Make Happy live, but I saw Make Happy early in the workings and it was obviously not finished as he interspersed old bits into the show. I hope he doesn't stop doing "stand up specials" after this, but I'm sure he won't stop creating in some form or fashion and I look forward to whatever it is he does.

 

I've only seen like an episode and a half at this point but the little I've seen of Lady Dynamite has been pretty incredible.

 

Is the new Bo on Netflix?

Just re-listened to the Pauly Shore episode of HH, I guess because I'm a glutton for punishment. Oh man, is it more awkward than I remember. It did lead me to the next episode where they read the comment from AP.net though, so that was funny to re-visit.

 

that new bo burnham special is brilliant.

 

I'm currently in the middle of the country song on Bo's new special and it's probably the first real laugh I've had, kind of bummed I'm not feeling this as much as the rest of you.

Make Happy is so good. Maybe not quite as good as What because I wasn't really feeling the PB/J bit whereas I loved everything in What, but close for sure. That ending is something else.

 

Bo's special is good so far.

 

Oh wow Bo is in The Big Sick (Kumail and Emily's movie that's directed by Michael Showalter and produced by Judd Apatow)!

 

Andy and Jorma losing it because of Kroll and Mulaney is great.

 

Had no idea Bo wants to be done performing. Perfect ending to his stand up career if true.

 

Hidden America is great!

 

I need to watch it all tomorrow. Need to sign up for SeeSo first though.

 

After his CBB appearances over the last several months and the end of the CBB tour, I feel confident in saying that Tim Baltz is extremely funny. Very good addition as a CBB "regular".
