I had some online class last semester and the professor clearly wasn't computer savvy enough to teach that way. There were assignments listed from 2017 on there and it was so confusing and hard to tell what was due. I still managed, but apparently some people missed stuff so the professor gave us each like 100 points at the end Easy A

 

it's only october and i'm already fucking with a gpa calculator......

 

There’s a couple of people in the diploma I’m studying that just don’t bother showing up, rude in the group chat and then expect help or to clue them in on what they missed? Idk, maybe try showing up once in a while? Attendance isn’t mandatory but our teachers and class environments are actually very encouraging and valuable. There’s this one guy, we all feel bad vibes, and everyone has some shitty comment that he’s said to us. now, we’re going to see him on Monday to finish off our radio journalism unit and there’s a good chance he’ll ruin our radio show considering that a) he hasn’t been in any of the classes, b) that includes rehearsals and planning the radio show, c) he hasn’t teamed up with anyone in class, and d) he’s only coming because “it’ll be fun” and he doesn’t want to miss it. Like, we all thought he dropped out because there was zero communication and little effort and now he’s all over the (previously good) group chat and I’m just not looking forward to Monday. It took a lot of work on my nerves and teaming up with someone I’m comfortable with to even feel okay about this radio assessment. I just don’t want this asshole to ruin it for me or anyone else, especially the people who have worked so hard in preparing the radio show — the theme music, tracks, organising the structure including talk breaks and other audio clips, and helping me when I was a nervous wreck recently!

 

the instructor for the class i'm tutoring assigned a research paper that deals with social issues but said the students can't use news media websites as sources? the fuck?

 

Kinda strange but does that just mean purely academic sources? Cause you should be able to find those in your school library or whatever, anything women’s studies is social issues lol

 

Yeah she said periodicals mostly. My problem with it is that she seems to be discrediting news media sources as valid sources of information, and I believe that the students who aren't as interested in societal problems will struggle greatly with this assignment if they can't pull ideas off of the internet. It's also not exactly Convenient for some of these students to physically go to the library, seek out a librarian, and then have to make copies of everything they use. A lot of these students have jobs and there's a handful of pseo students who don't drive. It would be much easier for them to be able to do the majority of research at home.

 

That definitely happens sometimes. I have had a professor like that. Some do it to train you so to speak because there are definitely assignments in your future that require most if not all information to be peer reviewed.

 

can they use google scholar or jstor?

 

Yeah Google Scholar, or some kind of online database your school has access to

 

Yeah I didn’t mean the library haha I meant the online database. Papers published by women’s studies researchers were what I meant.

It sounds like they're able to use databases but they have to have a copy of the actual physical article? I'm looking back at the requirements now.
"Periodical articles written for adults and located in print format or obtained through a library database."
"NO WEB INTERNET SOURCES are permitted beyond web versions of documents from government or organizations listed above, as approved by the instructor in advance and meeting the requirements."

 

I would assume the professor isn't including documents from a database in "web internet sources" but it's impossible to tell because that is insanely broad and meaningless lol. I can't imagine they would not allow google scholar sources though.

Like I know it makes things annoying and not *as* easy but it also shouldn’t be difficult like, at all haha And imo is fairly normal requirements in upper level?

 

Our university database sucks so hard that I usually use Google Scholar

 

I dun goofed. My friend from out of town stayed at my place from Wednesday to Saturday and it was so much fun but I didn’t get any schoolwork done and it’s the worst week for that cause I have so much shit to do. Fuck. And tomorrow I have a concert to go to after class so I can’t really do much then which means I have to do almost everything today lol

 

Haven't really had the time to post here yet this semester but just coming in to say that taking 5 non-intro level classes, starting 2 research projects (and hopefully finishing one of them), and trying to apply to graduate school in the same semester was a very bad idea and I regret my decisions

 

I legit have no idea what’s goin on in one of my classes lol. I just found out my project due on Wednesday is getting a due date extension tho so that’s cool. One less thing to worry about this week.

 

Also, my quantum mechanics class started with 11 people and, well, I'm pretty sure we're down to 5 now. I have my over/under for people finishing the class at 3. Hopefully I'm one of them

 

Loving my first semester but my Quantitative reasoning professor and TA have a combined 3 brain cells. Today instead of reviewing for the midterm we have TOMORROW we spent an hour and a half going over brand new, completely unrelated material.

 

I have zero motivation this semester

 

Three things
1) I didn’t go to class again today. I feel a lot of guilt about it but it really only mattered for one class, I was just so tired when I woke up this morning I had to keep sleeping
2) I got my midterm back from my one class, I got an 88 which isn’t bad considering I had no idea how well I did.
3) I got my case study for org comm back. I rushed it so bad and was like this is the worst shit I’ve ever written (pretty sure I was posting in a1 that day panicking about it about how I still left it to the last minute despite getting an extension). Well I got an A on it and comments like “wonderful argument and artifact” and “this is a well written well argued essay” and finally “I love that you didn’t rush this :) :)” and I’m just like LOOOOOOLLLLLLL

 

I have an essay due on Friday and two tests on Friday.

Life isn’t fun right now

 

I need advice, fast. My thesis is done and I'm more than 2000 words short of the requirement.

 

how much time do you have? bc the ideal thing to do would be further research into whatever you're writing about if you have like a day. what's your thesis on?
