I did for the first few albums, then the first comic dropped and I quickly realized the version in my head was a lot better than the version Claudio had in mind.

Afterman is the only story thread he's written that's genuinely gripped me, probably bc it's his most contained

yeah I don’t know anything about the story, that’s like the absolute over the top extreme fanatic stuff, which is totally awesome for those that have gotten into it, but I’m content with just absolutely loving the music and recognizing sometimes the lyrics are just completely fucking nonsense to me, but not always just because some stuff is written about the story just like anything else there’s ways to interpret things (except when he gets hyper specific to the plot or setting or whatever lol)

Wrapped up my full discography run. My rankings are now much different than they used to be:

    IKSSE:3
    Unheavenly Creatures
    Second Stage Turbine Blade
    Good Apollo
    Window of the Waking Mind
    No World For Tomorrow
    Year of the Black Rainbow
    Afterman Ascension
    Color Before the Sun
    Afterman Descension

Enjoy all their albums, but I'm now realizing how burnt out they seemed creatively on those Afterman albums. The rebound they made with these Vaxis albums after the 4 prior albums is pretty incredible.

That’s another cool thing about Vaxis II, even though it’s involved in the wild story- it’s so clearly drawn from his personal experiences and love for his child. Easier to connect to imo

I used to be way more into the story as a teenager. I still like to know the general theme/story of each album but I don’t get bogged down in what’s supposed to be happening during every song.

i did and do not care about the story but i thought it’d be fun to read the summaries/youtube explanations along with this discog run, mainly confirming it’s better not to pay attention to the story

Yeah back when we were talking about favorite/best songs I through most of them on a playlist and listened through and came to the conclusion my favorite is probably Gravity's Union.

I thought the band was very rejuvenated on the Afterman albums bringing back Josh and introducing Zach. Felt like a breath of fresh air for the band

We reach for the longest shadow

If anything there were too many ideas flying around that probably should've been left on the cutting floor.

Combined Afterman less a little fat plus random reality shift FTW.

Nah, if Afterman was trimmed to 13-15 songs with similar production to help with cohesion, it'd be close to my favorite Coheed album.

My combined afterman after listening to this a ton over the past few months. Pretty perfect to me.

I've been listening to this a bunch and just loving it. "The Liars Club" genuinely might be one of my favorite Coheed songs ever. It's way up at the top.

One of my close friends is a die-hard, travel all over the country, agonize over the lyrics and story fan. I've never been able to follow the story well at all, but I've been enjoying talking to him about my love for this one. It's getting me into going back to some of the older records that I never paid enough attention to.

them being burnt out on the aftermans is a take I have never seen before not even from the band, if anything year of the black rainbow was the burnout album

Afterman burnt me out as a fan, I needed a break from them for a bit after that, plus TCBTS didn't move the needle. I didn't actually really come around to Vaxis I (which is amazing) until a little more than a year ago because I felt like I had had my fill for a while there.
