    yeah good okay Prestigious

I thought we did a bracket for their best song and it ended up being IKS, which is true and factual

I’m still going through my discog run, but I’ll drop my rankings and overall favorite songs soon. Maybe I’ll share my thoughts in each album. Been having a lot of internal dialogue about their music lately lmao

I create content for some of your favorite artists

I got into Coheed from reading a very short review in Kerrang (KKKK) and being intrigued that I ordered the CD. Needless to say blown away and a fan for life. Only band I think I've ever just blindly bought a CD for without knowing anything about.

I thought FFTTEOM won the bracket here. Surprised me, but I'm not complaining! Bet if you did a mass survey of fans it would be something like IKS or Everything Evil.

I'm not sure Three Evils is my favorite of theirs on any given day, but it best captures the utter magic of their early writing style. If Claudio had kept writing his "pop" songs with that mentality past GA1, this might be my favorite band of all time.

Three Evils is elite level Coheed

Honestly, that trio of Three Evils, The Crowing, and Blood Red Summer is better than any suite this band has ever done

ive been wondering what the recording sessions for this one were like and i imagine something like this must have went down....

*recording the liars club first take*

band gets to the end of the first chorus

claudio" baby are you okayyy to lie with meaayyy"
josh *literally destroys the concept of time with a single drum fill*
engineer: nice job boys but i think we're gonna need to run that one again josh has ascended to a higher plane again and my mics only catch music on THIS plane of existence...sorry josh

i just cant believe how heavily he unleashes it on this album

three evils is possibly a top 10 favorite song of all time for me, coheed or not

Yeah Three Evils is great stuff. Also Cuts Marked, we don’t talk about those a lot. What a run of songs from IKS to The Crowing.

Yeah that really has to be the best 4-track run in their catalog, now that you mention it.

Leaving out Blood Red Summer smh

Cuts Marked is really good too though. Love that Josh plays the same rhythm in The Crowing as he does in the bridge of Cuts Marked. Really cool beat

talking about "runs" on the first two albums when they're both perfect front to back smh

Eh, the lyrics to Backend of Forever and Al the Killer take me out of the album a little bit. Easily the two weakest songs on the album for that reason alone

alright im doing MY discog run starting now. might take several days might take one and i dont even know what im aiming to get done before going to bed tonight. all i know is second stage turbine blade is currently jamming in my apartment, im about to fire up some video game im not sure which (maybe marvel's guardians of the galaxy) and vibe harder than ever.

i hardly ever listen to this album when i want to listen to coheed tbh, probably only listen to YOTBR and TCBTS less but thats mostly because i didnt get into this album until WAYYYYY down the line, like after the afterman albums came out late maybe even later idk it was so late its paradoxical because i dont remember when it was. its just one of those things, i knew it existed and everyone loved it and i needed to listen to it but i loved all their other stuff so much and for a very very long time the amount of music i consumed was borderline unhealthy so even with the best intentions it still took me forever to get to.

ive always appreciated it for kicking off their career and establishing a lot of what we know as hallmarks of the coheed sound, and right now (doing a quick live listen) theres a lot of awesome shit going on that holds up, great riffs (you can hear the inspiration for some future riffs if you listen close), inventive songwriting, claudio's unique voice coming right here to announced the band's arrival, its a bold debut that took them to all the places they deserved to go. i fucking love the guitar playing on this one (youll hear that a lot as i talk about their albums). also they clearly were not afraid to try some shit which is audacious for a first album, claudio is screaming over himself screaming, guitar solos are soloing over other guitars that are soloing, theres straight up breakdowns, there's soaring pop melodies, theres menacing alt rock angst, theres A LOT.

but theres some shit that has not held up. good god the production just fatigues my ears, i am getting tired listening to it 6 tracks in (not tired of listening, physically tired from listening because it is straining my ears because the production is so flat sounding) but i get it, debut album small budget early 2000's new york we've been here many times before, the quality of the songs and the crazy multi layered (to say the absolute least here) sci-fi story were all but guaranteed to be a hit. its not my favorite coheed album, and that could be because of how i got into this band, but its an important part of their history and the highs are nearly as high anything else in their discog. 7.75/10

(numerical score doesnt mean much, my 7.75 is probably much higher weighted than the average person if i had to guess, my 7.5 is probably the average chorus poster's 8-8.25, not that it matters either way but just want to point that out before people are like thats low af or whatever, perhaps it is but i typed out my reasons)

    (published after finished listening)

i get it!!!! again i listened to “time consumer” a few months after buying iksse:3 and i was like “this is the greatest song of all time” and then every song on sstb turned out to be the greatest song of all time. the production is not good, distorted and thin!

this is pretty much the only band whose debut i relentlessly stan though (ppl overdo the “the first album was the best then they fell off” thing with basically every punk band)

yeah its not even that its raw, because IKS is pretty raw (outside of a favor house and blood red summer, by design of course) its just ugh fatiguing is the only word for it. tiring.
