there’s always that one huge epic arena rock track and it’s always one of the albums best. IKS title track, welcome home, NWFT title track, juggernaut, domino

Agreed. It’s kind of hard for me to listen to now because of the lyrics but that makes it even better in a way. One of those songs you love but wish you couldn’t relate to.

The songs are merely in order of the events of the story and are their own beasts.
Lyrics within the songs can sometimes be from completely different parts in the story's timeline. It's very prevalent in SSTB where specific lines like "I don't feel alive" is said by a different character in the actual story than you would think in the song.

Everything Evil's events in the song are told in flashback.

Major characters highlighted in different albums actually first appear in the SSTB story.

You'll see it when you read the SSTB graphic novel. There are constant nods and call backs to let you know where you are.

Musical cues at the end or beginning of songs in the first 4 albums especially denote a passage of time or a changing of scene.

As far as the music to story change: Major. Originally SSTB and IKS were the whole story. It was later expanded on while IKS was being written. GA:1 being his "writer's block" period following his break up.

Originally the songs Everything Evil, 33 and Delirium Trigger had nothing to do with the story. Everything Evil was a nod to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 33 was about Patrick Ewing of the Knicks and Delirium Trigger was about the movie Alien(s).
Same for The Running Free (it was supposed to be for the Transformers soundtrack) and The Road and the Damned.

So far the stories in comic form are SSTB, IKS:III and GA:1. Following the release of the albums.
SSTB is the "second part". IKS: III is the third part and GA the fourth etc etc. The number in the album title tells you which part of the story it is.

Stories not in comic form: YOTBR, Afterman and Vaxis.

The actual story goes like this:
    Afterman
    YOTBR
    SSTB
    IKS:3
    GA:1 (FTTEOM)
    GA:2 (NWFT)
    Vaxis 1 (Unheavenly Creatures)

If Iron Fist never existed I wouldn't complain.

I think that's the only song they've ever done where I was just over it after the 3rd or 4th time I heard it.
Would have much rather they left The Homecoming on that album instead.

When talking Coheed pop no one ever mentions Hush, which I feel is overlooked and should have stayed on the YOTBR album but contracts and all that.

Love Iron Fist, but the first version they premiered before the album was better.

I think Iron Fist works better as a stripped down acoustic track and the original solo was better than the one on the album.

    yeah good okay Prestigious

I had lost interest in this band for a number of years after NWFT. When I heard this song, I knew this damn band was back.

Probably my favorite song on either of the Afterman albums

I still don't get how he plays that riff and sings at the same time

Musically the songs don't always match the story. Devil in Jersey city is really poppy and carefree and the song is about something atrocious
