he likes to provoke and enjoys being controversial from time to time, it's fun and thought-provoking, that's all - I am p sure his moral compass points in the right direction (at least as much as you can tell from his online antics)

I don't agree with everything he says either, but you know what, it's ok, you can still find value in someone who thinks differently, sometimes even more value than than what is provided in your echo chamber

yeah they're really expanding themselves here, incorporating a ton of industrial and grunge influence

I agree with you 100%. Code Orange (Kids) hasn't done anything for me since Cycles/Love is Love. I'm the asshole who'll contend that Cycles is their best release because there's this youthful enthusiasm that is there that I love. Their transitions weren't as jarring and spastic yet; the vocals felt a lot more well placed; there wasn't an over-reliance on Disembodied-esque mosh riffs; and they didn't have the cheesy "THINNERS OF THE HERD" vibe going for them yet. From there, I look back at the split that they put out with Full of Hell. Full of Hell has only gotten better since. The stuff Code Orange has put out has just lost my interest since. Again, this all ultimately boils down to personal preference though. I'll agree with you that Trap Them, Gaza (now Cult Leader), and Converge give me feelies more than Code Orange does as well. I'm really looking forward to Converge's album later this year (hopefully, they are recording in the spring).

With all this being said, I'm still going to check out Forever to try and decipher what all the hype is about.

I revisited Cycles recently and idk the transitions made much less sense to me, and not as purposeful. Love is Love took that sound and refined it, that album is still great

comparing veteran bands like converge, trap them, gaza/cult leader to these guys is pretty unfair. code orange is on a trajectory to become just as good as them, though they obviously arent there yet. they have plenty of room for growth and they keep moving upward with every album.

    What a list this is.

Pygmy Lush needs revisiting, not sure I've heard Beastmilk?

Gonna have to agree to disagree with you both here. I think it's definitely fair to star comparing Code Orange to their more established peers at this point, age nonwithstanding. They've been an active touring band since 2010/2011. As of tomorrow, they'll have put out three full lengths and multiple EPs and splits. They've shown a clear progression over the years, like you said. With that progression, I've lost interest in them as a band due to my tastes changing and just not aligning with what their doing. Love is Love (sans a few songs) and I am King just did not click with me. All of the material that Converge, Cult Leader/Gaza, and Trap Them has put out since then has held my interest more as has the material of several of their other peers (Nails, Full of Hell). I'm not decrying their talent at all. I know they're a talented band, but what they have been doing recently just bores me. Like I said in my original post, it's mostly a matter of preference.

idk man, they're only at where converge was when they put out when forever comes crashing. good album, but hard to deny that they showed an astronomical amount of growth over the next decade plus. i also think this is better than the last nails album, which fell off for me pretty hard after it released. maybe thatll happen with this idk. i do think trap them and cult leader are better bands but that doesnt mean code orange isnt still good

Good points. Forever Comes Crashing was where Converge started to find their identity sonically so I probably shouldn't hold it against Code Orange like that, but like I said it's just a matter of preference. To me, there are so many more extreme music bands doing more interesting things nowadays that appeal to me a bit more than Code Orange's sound which makes it easy for me to write them off. Should I do that easily as I do? Probably not, but I'm going to listen to Forever tomorrow when it hits Spotify with an open mind so I'll report back then.
