Depends on the style. Manufacturing locations make a difference with Barbour, and I would say most of their wax cotton jackets would be up there, but they have a lot of options to pick from.

I love the look as well.

what are some other conscious brands like Patagonia (my favorite clothing company) that I can feel good about giving my money to?

Where I work, we shoot for that 95% of the time.

For graphic tees and basics, Vestige has some great quality tees we carry every season. It’s two guys in the city who in their twenties got together to start making men’s apparel with no experience and they’ve got a great line.

For leather bags and accessories, Will Leather goods are all made in the U.S. and are great quality. (I have a reversible belt from them I wear almost daily.)

Barbour covers a lot of outdoor clothing and winter apparel that I really like. Their buttondowns are good too, fit a little big and Barbour is probably the priciest Brand I’ll list here. The brand is fairly old, but their jacket line is top notch and some are manufactured in England where they’re designed. Some stuff is outsourced though.

As for major brands, my favorite is Scotch & Soda. The look, the feel, the originality is all there. They take risks every season which we like, some stuff is really hit or miss. I don’t like that they manufacture a lot in China, but the company was originally founded in Amsterdam and I’m fairly certain that they’re still based there even though they’re practically a global brand now.

For a classier look, I really like Rodd & Gunn who are based in New Zealand.

Edit: things to avoid (and the best way to do this is to look at the manufacturing tags that are required on every garment, usually hidden either near the collar or side seam.)

    -Things made of Polyester
    -Things made of Viscose
    -Manufacturing in China/Turkey/Mexico
    -Old Navy

Oh and I also have become a fan of Naked & Famous clothing. (No, not the band.)

Designed and manufactured in Canada. They’re getting somewhat popular.

Danner boots for winter. They’re owned by Lacrosse footwear who are based in Oregon.

What's wrong with Old Navy? I've never worn anything there, but my 2 year old has some stuff from there.

I mean, I don’t sell or work with baby fashion so that department may be fine. Everything else is just poorly designed imo.

Okay, good. I thought you were implying there was something dirty with the company. What about Banana Republic? I have a couple of their chinos, no issue yet.

I used to buy a lot of dress clothes like blazers and buttondowns on sale from there when I worked in banking. Haven’t been in a few years now tbh.

I hate how old Navy things typically fit me but I just ordered a few pairs of pants from there anyway smh. Hopefully they're okay.

For the past 3 or so years, I've only bought jeans from Express, because they were the best fitting skinny jeans I could find. Just switched to Levi's 510, and my goodness, I wish I did sooner.

Pretty much all fast fashion is ethically corrupt. If you're buying a tee shirt for $10 it's made in a sweat shop.

Everlane is another ethical shop that is lower in price than most of the other brands mentioned. Although their quality isn't as good.

I need to be better with fashion. Most stuff I buy from poshmark which at least is secondhand I guess but yeah. It's gonna be hard for me to break the feeling of getting a "deal" and saving money. I grew up so frugally I have a hard time leaving that mindset

I think all my clothes are made overseas, American Apparel knowingly employed a serial harasser for years so I can't go that route either

    I AM WEAK

Got a turtle neck and suuuuper skinny blue jeans which I haven’t owned in forever. I’ve been wearing black jeans for like two years straight.

Then I went vintage shopping and snagged this 70’s shirt with a mock turtle neck collar that I love lol

My goal by the end of 2018 is to own a large amount of clothing from the 70’s/very early 80’s. I love the way those clothes were cut
