Just got out of this. I really enjoyed it, especially the photographer angle it had throughout. I know some don’t like that it didn’t pick sides narratively, but I liked how you felt like you were stuck in the middle of 2 sides regardless of your alignments, like the photographers were, without giving many details on what either side’s political ideology was.

My 2nd favorite film of the year rn behind Dune 2.

This was great. Really found so many little details intriguing, like how the Canadian dollar is the stronger currency. An extremely small moment, literally one line, that shows a much wider reality of what war would be here. Just like a photograph. It’s a cool conceit in a movie that focuses on the power of a photograph and what makes a good photograph, so to speak.

Hey as it turns out stuff happens in this movie that’s pretty darn close to this gif!

I think this was Fine To Good For The Most Part and the marketing kinda failed it! As I think @Zilla said the trailer REALLY misconstrues the tone of many scenes. This is MUCH better than if he had actually made a movie about what *caused* a modern civil war

Based on that map that keeps getting posted, is it right to say there are apparently 4 different sides in this conflict? Or do we not know even after the movie is over? I am probably not seeing this but am curious

The Western Forces of Texas and California and The Florida Alliance are the two forces trying to kick a President out of office during his (we are to assume) illegal third term. We don’t know why they aren’t working together and they’re in a “race to Berlin.”

That’s about the extent of the political landscape we’re given (other than the president being a clear Trump stand in).

Yeah, that was a big sticking point for me was I don’t buy that she went from this sensitive, young photographer with her dad’s camera to jumping out of moving cars and being completely numb to watching her hero die in front of her because of her own carelessness so she can get the shot.

I mean a scene before she had PTSD from Sammy dying and then she’s just a hardcore photojournalist jumping in front of bullets and what not, didn’t feel earned at all to me.

trailers should be illegal. they’re either giving away the whole movie or completely misrepresenting it 90% of the time

Crazy soldier: What kind of American are you?

(Me In my head): I’m from Indiana but I currently live in Chicago & never wish to go back to Indiana

    (Me Out loud): Indiana

    Crazy Soldier: You’re good.

loved the scene where they’re in the Pleasantville-type town. it represented with eerie accuracy how my current town felt weeks after a mass shooting on July 4 2022 a few towns over.

My town had an outdoor event a few short weeks after the mass shooting and there were armed police posted on the roofs of downtown buildings for safety. It sucked.

How has no one mentioned how gorgeous the Sturgill Simpson/forest fire scene is?

Oh hey another thing unrelated to the film:

we had the old AMC preroll/old Kidman ad/old Dolby intro last night after having all of the new stuff the last several weeks. Annoying

I truly hate the joke of “Yes. The projector is still on.” Or maybe that’s Prime where the pre-roll says it. Either way!

  25. I think I loved this. Our lived reality is enough context for how the US arrives at this scenario. We're probably a lot closer to something like this happening than we think, which is what made this movie so terrifying to me. So much haunting imagery. Loved Dunst in this too. I agree with Chaw's take on the movie.
