Still don't know how I felt about Men but Annihilation, Ex Machina, and DEVS are golden so yeah, I'm in for whatever he does.

Men was awful and pretentious, aren't they all, but I still trust the king

poster looks cool and I enjoy pretty much everything else I've seen from Garland. Still no plot details anywhere but the trailer is dropping within the next week

  7. I liked some parts of Men, but hopefully this is back on the level of his previous work.

The fact that it's going to be in IMAX is intriguing

don't know anything about the plot yet so I have no idea what to think yet!

Unless the reviews are great, not sure if I necessarily want to see this

Trailer is not doing much for me at all. It looks like a generic tv show and not a movie.

  16. Wouldn't have guessed this was a Garland movie from the trailer. I'll still see it for him and for the cast, but my hype is definitely down a bit.

Yeah, hype is down hearing that this is a companion piece to Men, and I’m not sure I trust Garland’s politics enough to think he can handle a subject like this. But i like the cast a lot and he’s got enough goodwill built up from his work pre-Men that I’ll see it. He once said something about making a tv series on the necessity of political violence when protests don’t work or something, and i wonder if this came out of that.

Yeah, this requires extreme adeptness at political messaging and understanding that I'm very curious about how it plays out narratively before passing judgement. but having texas and cali aligned seems odd

Should be a fun watch in the middle of the 2024 election year

This seems way bigger than anything he's done before, which worries me a bit.

Alex Garland basically making a DMZ movie?

Eh, I'll take it. The TV show adaptation was lame.

Maybe it's just the trailer but this seems like a departure tonally from the cold eeriness of everything Garland's made. If I saw this trailer without knowing it's him I probably wouldn't be interested, but he's one of those guys whose stuff I'm always intrigued by even when certain projects don't land for me.

My friend texted me this morning confused because he thought this was supposed to be about THE Civil War. I said the poster has the Statue of Liberty and a guy in tactical gear and a sniper rifle, and he was like I thought it was just cool imagery and didn't think about those things. You ever get disappointed by how dumb some of your friends?
