    What do you mean?

Why not? I didn’t say they were incapable, that’s why I listened.

Do we feel like we are ready for this band to be done with Yip now? They've pushed their sound with him as far as they can go and should branch out to some other producers? Does anyone actually ever leave Yip after doing more than one album with him? ha

The post about not loving the production, unless the leak is slightly off I agree with it. There could be more space on the quiet parts, I LOVE loud drums, but for my taste they are a bit loud at times here. The big parts don't hit super hard always but I actually like that, give it more of a straight alt rock feel than a punk/posthardcore/emo feel. Don't get me wrong the album is awesome, and super innovative, but sonically I think a new producer could push them harder. This album will easily be in my top 10-15 but I don't think it will compete for a top spot like I wanted it too and I couldn't figure out why, but I think its the production.

Lol holy shit people get way too bent out of shape over any negative comments...

As for this album, I haven’t heard it yet but it’s on the docket for later today

I personally just don't get why some people waste so much time talking about things they don't like

don't care about negative comments, I sort of just made one. I just don't see the point of it if its a band you clearly don't like. there are a lot of bands I don't like on here and I listen to their albums and I say damn this just isnt for me, and I just dont post in those threads. Its just sort of a pet peeve of mine.

I think for me a lot of it comes from growing up and playing in bands. I know how much work goes into everything and I really try to respect all art to some degree. I think I learned that if you don't have anything nice to say than don't say anything at all bc I know how it feels to have your art crapped all over.. first time for me was when I was 14, I recorded a TERRIBLE EP with my band that we spent months writing. My uncle basically told me it was garbage, and while it certainly was true it really destroyed me. I was young and stupid and it probably was one of those things where it could have made me better, but IDK i just am really careful about negative comments towards music and I think it comes from when I was younger and knowing how it feels to be put down. I'm way better with taking criticism now but that's because I feel like I validated myself musically by getting a masters degree in the field haha (this is a joke).. I also have a lot of friends that make music, I try to give all artist the response that I would want, some critical feedback is fine but just saying everything they do is bad isn't productive at all. I guess thats a bit of a "snowflakey" opinion, but thats where it comes from if people are wondering. And while people don't believe that artist care what goes on in these threads, occasionally they do read them and occasionally it does make them upset... to this day I believe Aaron Gillespie was lurking on Ap.net when everyone was crapping on his worship record and he came in and said something about it.

I'm sure the actual album quality will be better than the leak. Idk even after the past few days, I think this will go down as my AOTY. Some songs really just hit me in a way that not many things have in the past couple of years

And I don’t get this argument. The guy made one post initially, how much time does that take?? He also made it clear that he thought he’d eventually find something in this band to latch onto, but it just didn’t end up being there. It’s not like he knew he’d dislike it and came in just to shit on it, in which case I generally agree with what you guys are saying. But I don’t think that happens very often.

Nothing productive comes from it though. I've listened to some albums this year that I don't like, some of which people on this site like, and I've never felt the need to go into those threads and say how much I dislike them. I just don't get the point. Like what is the end goal of going into a thread and saying you think something is bad?

I posted because I wanted to like this band back when Youth came out and there was huge hype. It's a sound I like, these guys just miss the mark for me. Went back for their last album as well, didn't like it. I've listened to this twice now trying to see what they're bringing to the table and I just can't. The songs don't resonate with me, I think they're shoddily written for the most part. My post last night was simply an "I'm listening, I don't like it". Is that not what album threads are for?

None of my follow ups were serious cause I found it funny. I thought it was obvious.

Don't really like Youth at all and EIGTH had some great songs (Dive into my Sun, Heaviside) so I have some hopes of possibly liking this when I listen to it on a drive Friday.

I'm getting really bad about remembering to download leaks when i get home. I get busy doing other stuff, then when i come into work and check these threads i think, "oh yeah, crap, i meant to download that last night and forgot." It happened with TWIABP, and i bet I'm going to keep forgetting until release day with this one too.

    is this growing up?

It's fine to have a negative opinion, but you should be prepared to discuss it if you're going to come posting about it in the album thread with a bunch of the band's bigger fans.

  22. Yes, absolutely. You know how some artists self produce their records and they wind up having no outside input with their songwriting or anybody in the studio to keep them in check? I feel like that's what's starting to happen with a few of the bands that have repetitively gone back to Yip for the last 5 or so years. Artists have consistently called him a "member of the band" and despite his creative ear, I think that's a problem. When you write most of your record in a studio with a producer that has more or less written all of your other stuff with you, it puts you in an echo chamber. Are you going to continue to evolve your sound and grow as an artist? Sure, probably -- Will is a creative guy. The Eisley and Menzingers records this year are both band's best records. But Will was a new variable for those bands. Obviously artists can do what they want but I feel like (some of, not all) the Studio 4 crowd are only limiting themselves by not changing up the variables between records.

100% agree with your agreement on my post (lol). I want to be wrong here, but I doubt it's the leak. The songs just feel really one dimensional instead of immersing you in its sound. Like the bridge in Medicine -- why does that sound so weak? I feel like the part should sound HUGE and yet for some reason it just sorta gets glossed over. The muddiness of it all has definitely put a damper on my enjoyment as well.

Side note: you know what record is sorta like this that actually sounded awesome? That last Better Off record. I wish Arun had gotten his hands on this one cause he could've done wonders with the way this sounds.

For this album apparently it was mostly written before they got to the studio. I only know this from a will yip podcast. So idk, the mix isn’t awful but there are parts that don’t feel like they fill execute and it’s keeping them from becoming a top tier band for me. And I hate to bring up the brand new comparison but imagine if sapone has recorded this ha

I’m going to wait until release to really judge. I swear my Apple Music hates it when I bring outside files and compresses them or something, idk all my leaks always sound super muddy and then I listen to it on the service and they sound way better, and it will always be like 320, I think it’s bc it compresses it to whatever format Apple uses and messes with the files, I could be all in my head but it’s something I swear by haha

I think the jury is still out on Yip, some bands have really changed it up release to release and still recorded with him. Look at Title Fight from Shed > Floral Green > Hyperview, Will was highly involved in all of those and they all sound VASTLY different. Balance and Composure as well from The Things We Think We're Missing to Light We Made. Keep in mind I haven't heard this record, but Citizen seemed to want to hone in the best parts of both albums for this one, and Will helped them achieve that goal.

Will has always said he wants to be involved with the band, but he wants to push their vision, he doesn't push his own narrative. I'll be interested to see how the new PBTT stacks up to Keep You once we finally get to hear it.
