CHVRCHES is such an album band for me. I listened to Get Out, but held off on all the other ones because I feel like their songs always work best in context. (minus Leave a Trace, which knocked me flat the first time I heard it)

    The rivalry is back on

Synthpop is a genre that I don’t care at all what the reviews say. It’s generally going to be panned by all the publications who use it as their “well at least my music is better than THIS” benchmark

    Yeah sorry, that’s too vague.

There are synth pop albums that are positively reviewed and I’m interested in what critics have to say, but an album where an already poppy band brings a major producer onboard is not one of them

This doesn’t seem to be getting panned at all, it’s their second highest rated album on Metacritic and is only one point lower than Bones

Premature Evaluation: Chvrches 'Love Is Dead'

i can't find the other review that i read but at least the publications i read have all panned them pretty hard. they weren't scored reviews so idk if it counts

that stereogum is literally the only review of it ive seen and those premature articles are hardly reviews, its just a history of the band and what they like about their other albums and their early impressions on this one. kind of a useless write up

kindred was bad, tremendous sea of love is actually underrated because its an absolutely unreal and beautiful and touching record and barely got any buzz at release and even less people talk about it now

"Graffiti" is a great opener. Like it way more than any of the singles.

I like "Get Out" a lot more than I remember too. Maybe I'm just in a better mood for it.
