Hey, we have a weekly film club, so I'm stealing the rules for a weekly record club. Join us as members rotate and choose a new record weekly to discuss here!

    Members so far: myself, @I Am Mick, @angrycandy , @aoftbsten, @OhTheWater, @cshadows2887, @Patterns in Traffic, @flask, @Craig Manning, @Contender , @WadeCastle, @Long Century, @ghostedaway , @SteveLikesMusic , @Matt Chylak, @troyplaysbass. @Kistler, @JM95, @edisnfg, @williek311, @Doomsday, @OotyPa, @Wharf Rat
    Rules for picking your record:
    1. It must be available on streaming services.
    2. The album shouldn't be released this calendar year (ideally, the more history you have with it, the better).
    3. The album should be special or interesting to you for personal reasons - we're not here to be snobby, but cult picks will be more fun to dissect than canon releases. Different genres encouraged!

Each Friday will be a new recommendation from the chosen member. The next member will choose the movie next Friday. We will go in the order of the member list above and new members will be added to the bottom until we finish the list and rotate back. All are welcome.

  7. I would also say feel free to post a little about why you chose your pick, let's open it up to discussion even if people don't like the record and try not to take it personally. Let's also encourage first reaction posts in here!

We had a club years ago where people would pair up and do reviews but this is much easier.

  16. Count me in! I did one of these on Discord a while back and it was a lot of fun. I've been thinking for a while we should try it here, but never took the time to try to get it off the ground. Thanks for initiating, @Aaron Mook !

  18. Was going back and forth between Alex G albums, but in the spirit of the holidays, I want to pick a true winter record. So, if you want to get a head start on our first pick, it's going to be Oneohtrix Point Never - Replica. I've always loved vaporwave, but this is the album that pushed me beyond the aesthetics of the genre and into more ambient and experimental territory. It opened me up to a lot of new music and was one of the first times I really felt like I was hearing something that was beautiful at times and ugly at others. The title track is 100% a winter night song for me.

    also worth peeping for context:

  24. Hell yeah, the first three-track run is killer imo. I don't think this is a crazy experimental record or anything, but it will be interesting hearing thoughts from people like @cshadows2887 and @Craig Manning. And I look forward to hearing their picks as well!

this one really works for me at night, especially if I'm playing a video game or something. I used to listen to a lot of OPN when I was working, it got me in the zone and helped soothe my anxiety a lot. feels very cinematic to me.

I get what you’re saying but also that’s not to say this is unadventurous in any way because it’s very playful and to someone who hasn’t really listened to much IDM, it’s probably more experimental ya know
