I just think it’s weird to be in a thread where people are meant to share their favorite music of the year and make a comment about how nobody’s list is interesting. It’s like why am I even bothering then

 

It was more a response to someone singling another out for being different. Not a knock on others, and sorry if you took it that way. But the truth is it is more interesting when people share things that are new and unexpected. We shouldn’t be mocking others for bringing something like that to the forum

 

The only thing I care about when making these lists is recording what my favourites of the year are. They're more for me than anyone else because no one else is going to care as much as me.

If anyone else finds my lists interesting or not isn't really a concern but if anyone does then great. I enjoy seeing people's lists, especially those who I've seen post them for over a decade now. It's fun to see what albums are universally loved on here and it's fun to see the odd poster with an entire list full of stuff I've never heard of.

 

Yeah we're just posting the music we most genuinely enjoyed last year, and that's what's interesting about this thread.

I can’t believe that it’s 2024 and I’m seeing LL on multiple lists on Chorus, amazing

 

1. Alkaline Trio - Blood Hair and Eyeballs -just a really consistent album for me. Very catchy songs and good melodies throughout. Fav song - Versions of you - the bridge is great
2. BMTH - Post Human Nex Gen - all over the place stylistically but I really like it. Assumed BMTH were crap now but then heard ‘Lost’ on radio 1 rock show, then ‘Amen’ which starts so hard I loved it straight away. Fav song - Top 10 statues that cried blood
3. Real Friends - Blue Hour - really like the shift with this band, less whiny pop punk and a heavier edge to it now with the ex Youth Fountain vocalist. Fav song - Never has become always
4. Origami Angel - Feeling Not Found - was a bit of a grower for me, but I love loads of the riffs on this and also some of the different styles too. Fav song - Dirty Mirror Selfie
5. Twin Atlantic - Meltdown - another band I had written off, their last album was so fucking bad I thought they had really lost their way. This is just a good rock album though, feels like it belongs around their first couple of albums in terms of style. Fav song - Meltdown
6. Bayside - There Are Worse Things Than Being Alive - another band who can just write catchy songs consistently. The guitar work on this is so so good. Fav song - Say So Long
7. Knocked Loose - You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To - love how fast and aggressive and heavy this is. Not sure how such loud noise can still be catchy. Fav song - Slaughterhouse 2
8. Bleachers - S/T - enjoyed this a lot more than his last where I think he was trying too hard to be Bruce Springsteen. It feels kind of like a somber album save for a couple of songs. Enjoyed it a lot on night walks. Fav song - Me Before You
9. Kendrick Lamar - GNX - arrived totally out of the blue at end of November with no promotion at all. Most immediately hitting album of his since Damn in 2017 for me, just banger after banger. Which is a relief after his last album being so dense - Fav Song - Reincarnated
10. Soft Play - Heavy Jelly - only really got into Soft Play this year. Wife liked a few songs when they were called Slaves, but saw their Glastonbury set and thought they sounded great for a 2 piece. I like their lyrics as they are funny and also relatable at times too without being serious. Fav song - Act Violently

to be however old he is and fully immersed in hollywood and rich person life and put out an album like that that doesn't for 1 second feel corny or forced at all is really impressive
