Best shows I saw this year:
My dad and I flew to Texas to see our favorite band, the Old 97s, on their home turf. We saw them play a small BBQ place in Tyler called Stanley’s, and caught Brandi Carlile at the Bomb Factory in Dallas. Both were incredible.

Also saw Rhett Miller at this weird little place in Freehold, NJ called Concerts in the Studio. It’s basically some dudes garage with like 40 folding chairs in it. He told lots of stories, interacted with us, and played a wide range of his catalog, both 97s and solo.

It’s always great when you can feel the rest of a crowd start liking an opener. We knew Jade Bird going into the Isbell/Father Misty show at the Met in Philly, but also delighted in her winning over everyone else.

Home for Thanksgiving, we all went to see the best Springsteen cover band at the shore play in Belmar, NJ and who shows up but Jake Clemons, the actual saxophone player in the actual E Street Band.

Also saw for the first time and enjoyed Noah Gundersen, Steely Dan, Hozier, Lucy Dacus, Mt. Joy, Alex Lahey, and Hudson Taylor.
