I'm probably out of this for the rest of the year tbh, need to start my EOTY write up soon because if it's anything like last year's it's gonna take up most of my free time for these last few weeks

 

Thank you guys!!! I do take a lot of influence from old 97s and the first few tSwifts. I appreciate the comments about it sounding like my originals!! I wish I had a band to flesh out my stuff.

Best of 17 has 3 submissions for me for sure.

I asked this last year, Brad said keep it strictly to songs released in 2017.

 

Ha. Yeah I imagine that will be the consensus omission, and a major point of contention around these parts. I'm not looking forward to the conversations that will be had when lists begin to surface.

 

Okay so we'll do Best of 2017 in January. What band do people want to pay tribute to in December? Let's start taking suggestions to make it easier for Brad (or Myself) to make a poll later in the week.

I actually can comfortably leave it out, but it wouldn't be a true representation of how I rated it.

 

I feel like I need to listen to this through one more time before giving my thoughts. I do think it's one of the better ones I've participated in.

Places - Yup, it was recorded outside! (I'm not sure how that gives it a bedroom-y quality.) I wish I could give you this great story about how I found a secluded place off of some outdoorsy trail in LA to record, but nope--it's just the outside of my house...

All That's Left - Honestly, I initially planned to do a huge full-band cover of a Thrice song by myself, but since I set a goal of doing 52 covers this year I've gotten so lazy. Really glad you guys ended up more or less enjoying the single-guitar arrangement.

Secrets - Now this one I did plan on being single-guitar. Coheed usually has so much going on, so it's nice to hear when it's stripped down. (That old video of just Claudio playing Everything Evil on an acoustic guitar is one of my most favorite things on YouTube.) There's no way I could play and sing this at the same time haha. Maybe with another month or two of practice, and it already took me a really long time to get all the parts down without the singing.
