My song is gonna have both my best and worst vocal performance ever at the same time. hahaha I like it for the "raw" factor. Only have lead guitar and mixing/mastering left.

Hey Brad, are the songs we're covering summer songs to be whatever we want, or whatever we want to be summer songs?

 

I'm not sure if I follow you 100% here but I THINK you're asking what constitutes a summer song.

I've been going on the assumption that choices either lyrically related to summer or the feelings that go along with summer. Also, I think that songs that remind you of summer would count as well... including a song that reminds you of summer (because that's when it came out).

The 2 songs I chose kind of fit all those criteria. Stay Out (Hit The Lights) isn't about summer but the album it's on was released during one of my most memorable summers and lyrically the song has a summer feel (about staying out, drinking without regard for your life in the morning, etc); It's Been A Summer (NFG) is more literal... it's about summer. It was also released the summer I graduated high school so Sticks and Stones holds a special place my memories.

 

It's hard to explain what I mean.

Like, are we covering summer songs and letting them be as upbeat or as laid back as we want, or are we covering whatever song we want and making them upbeat

I ask because it will constitute if I change my songs or not.

 

Maybe I'm confused as to what a summer song is. Idk. I always thought upbeat pop rock/pop punk was summer, not necessarily a song about summer, or a song that mentions summer.

I don't see anything wrong with just Jack Johnson-ing a song and then voila, it's a summer song.

my 8-string version was not good. haha. and since i'm already doing one pop-punk song, I figured I should do something different for my other tune.

I'll still also be submitting that HTL tune.

 

Still trying to nail down what I'm gonna do. Might come in with surprise cover lol.

 

I've been brainstorming what song I should do for my second one. Lots of ideas. A T-Swift cover, "Flavor of the Weak" by American Hi Fi (although that might be too similar to the Lit cover I plan on doing), "Steal My Sunshine" by Len, a NOFX one or some other skate punk... ah! So many ideas!

 

I'm going to be a pain and say forget I wanted any of the songs I wanted, I'm still not sure what I want to do. I have like 20 I'm trying out, and can't decide.

 

i don't think a song has to be upbeat to feel like summer necessarily, there are quite a few albums / songs that feel like late summer nights to me that are sort of dreamy and quiet

the song i picked is a super mellow pop song that happens to be about summer

i agree! summer nights can be the calmest and most peaceful nights. in fact, i was thinking about possibly turning an up-tempo catchy fun summer song into a mellow acoustic summer night kind of song. not sure which song i'd do, but yeah, it's definitely something i'm going to play around with.
