The Yellowcard blurbs are some of my favorites. I think I have forgotten how much that band means to me, given their decision to hang it up more than three years ago. Going back to those albums was definitely a meaningful experience.

All three of those Isbell records are super important to me, and pretty close in terms of how much I love them. I didn't feel like I could rank any of them too far back. And that's all thanks to you, since you were the first person to introduce me to his music.

Also, GOD FUCKING DAMMIT. So many hours on this thing and I still fucked something up. There was an album that I wanted to include and even wrote a blurb for that I just never put in there. Edited the list to put that in there, so now it really IS 200 albums.

 

Yeah he's been on an unbelievable tear this decade and it makes me so happy to see how wildly successful he's been. Hope the next record is just as good.

What a list. Surprised and delighted to se No Devolucion on there. It's strange to realize that album came out this decade, as it arrived at the tail end of a section of my life I mentally categorize as simply as "2007."

Anyone know where I could read list for the previous decade? I'm curious to compare.

 

Same. He's got a tough act to follow after the last four, but I'm very excited to hear what he gives us in 2020.

Both. Slack for coordinating, Google Sheet for all the spreadsheet and sharing the final lists and tallying stuff.

After Laughter is #1 for me. Hands down. That record is fantastic across the board. It came out during an interesting/stressful time in my life and it really helped me through it all. Can't say enough good things about it.

The more I've thought about it, After Laughter is the perfect album of the decade for this site. It encapsulates so much about music in the 2010s, especially for the AP.net/Chorus crowd (Female fronted, elements of poptimism, shows the previous decade emo-pop scene evolving stylistically etc)

 

I can respect that. Not trying to be a troll at all, and sincere question. How do you feel about Michael Jackson and what are your thoughts on why fans seem to be able to push beyond his scandals? Is it just he’s on such a grander scale that even if 50% stand by him it’s still mega star? Think pop community looks the other way moreso on scandal?

 

That’s interesting, and just to clear any confusion I am not trolling or being combative, but (and please correct me if I’m wrong I didn’t follow it closely) weren’t the allegations from the past? I mean weren’t they occurring during those older album cycles? I can see how you associate SF with the breaking of the news but wouldn’t some of those older songs be possibly more influenced by these horrendous actions? Purely from a curious psychological perspective, clearly no right or wrong answer just wondering why you can separate the actions from the older albums? (Apologies if I have the details mixed up and his unspeakable actions were occurring during SF)

 

I can't speak for everyone, but for many the news has meant they no longer wish to listen to any of the band's music, or support the band in any way. Science Fiction is the only album the band released this decade so when discussing the best albums of the 2010s it is the only one you'll see mentioned. But if former fans can no longer listen to Science Fiction, I highly doubt they are still jamming older BN albums either.

 

I personally don't want to listen to Michael Jackson anymore either. People can draw their own boundaries: it's ultimately none of my business. But I don't seek out his stuff to listen to anymore, and when one of his songs comes on at a wedding, I go to the bar to get a drink rather than stay on the dance floor.

 

I think this is mostly the case with a actual big (or formerly big) artists, not scene-big artists. R. Kelly's streams went up because he was in the news, despite the reasons that brought him into the news. Probably quite simply because it made people remember songs they liked. In Michael's case people never even forgot those songs. I also think the group that doesn't care, or at least doesn't let it affect their listening, is way bigger than 50%.

 

For sure. What I really mean is that I'd only been listening to SF for a short time before learning of the abuse, so I never got attached to the album, nor really probably even got to know it very well, so it's been easy to forget it. I can't possibly forget the older albums, but I still haven't been interested in listening to them either.

As one of the other posters said, it's not my business to set barriers for others, there shouldn't be rules for how people respond to these situations, ultimately my point was just that it was pretty organic to forgot it was called Science Fiction because it never meant that much to me.

 

Appreciate your thoughtful detailed response, I think I understand better what you were originally saying. This all makes sense to me.
