Wow, was expecting to have to bump this myself today, nice coincidence.

Anyway, my limited edition VR vinyl came today and it's SO fucking cool. It's not the entire Pharos show like I was expecting, but instead live performances of Me and Your Mama, Zombies, California, and Stand Tall, with the latter two having crazy visuals like walking through a forest or flying through space instead of just looking at the stage like you do in the first two songs.

I fucking love how he always tries to make his music releases "experiences." BTI had the screenplay and short film, Kauai had the hidden track that someone had to find in the coding of his website, and now this, etc.

 

But California is legitimately one of the worst songs I've ever heard, why include that and not Redbone??!

I'm not paying 60 for the VR nonsense... hell, I'd pay 30 for jus the 2x45RPM.

 

Haven't returned to this in a while until today. It really has some moments on it though. Appreciate his intent to change his sound and style.

 

Oh yeah and the vinyl also has The Night Me and Your Mama Met with vocals on it as a hidden track. Couldn't hear that anywhere except bootlegs from Pharos until now

And yeah I love California and basically this whole album

 

"California" is still hot garbage but the "good" moments on this album are actually great. This one took time to grow.

 

I still love almost all of this... "California" is probably my least favorite but the whole album is really well-done.

 

Fuck he's only doing one more album? I understand because of everything else he's doing but still, fuck man

 

my guess is it's for the gambino alias. It makes sense now to use his name because of how big he is getting.

Honestly I think if he was gonna go by his real name for music, this album would have been the time to start due to how different from his other stuff it is.

I really hope his next album won't be his last, and also kind of doubt it, but if it is, I really hope it combines the best aspects of all of his work. Need great singing, rapping, and production

 

I feel like we've heard this before from him

 

"Redbone" played on a PA during Roots Picnic yesterday and it was the loudest singalong of the day.
