i think he probably had a plan for the album but i think breaking his leg last year and his fathers death threw it kind of out the window. then he had commitment to do lion king this year, and then got wrapped up in making atlanta seasons 3+4, which is what i assume is going on now. He also said that this album would be the last gambino album and maybe since gambino blew the fuck up around the time he said that, he would rather keep the name than retire it for the time being? idk just spitballing

Literally the only thing they might have in common is impatient fans. But then that's true of god knows how many artists these days.

 

Half of Childish Gambino fans only know three other hip hop artists.

 

AML only came out 3 years ago, and since then we've gotten 3 new singles plus a movie. I want the new album, but I don't feel like it's been an unnecessarily long wait.

Idont think you can say that he even claims to be actively working on this album/pushing it back, he only said an album will come, never with any real timeline at all. There are the new songs and ones he's only performed live but beyond that I don't think there has ever even been a timeline that he's mentioned/broken outside of speculation.
