I had to look up "perfunctory", but I'm glad I did, and thinking about it – I agree (to an extent, hear me out.) Marvel's job now is reminding people who don't know – this character will be in Avengers: End Game. This end-credits scene served more like the scene from the original Ant-Man. Hey, you like this character? Did you know they're affiliated with this other massive thing? It made sense. Also: OMG her new suit. LOVE IT.

    and a millions screams...

Didn't watch the movie yet, but walked in to the credits just to watch this and I agree 100%. I was a huge let down to how I had envisioned on the scene in my mind.

I just think it's lame that they've been using short clips from the next film for post credit scenes

Seeing it a third time at some point this weekend or next week, I tend to see all the Marvel movies 3-4 times in theaters. My thoughts after the second viewing last night:

    1. My love for Lashana Lynch only grew more after the second viewing. Her casting was SO good, I want to check out more of her work now.
    2. I wish I hadn't spoiled the goose the cat surprise for myself by following comic movie websites (and these forums) but it was still a lot of fun to catch the audience's reaction when I knew it was coming.
    3. We went with a group of 9 total, 5 men, 4 women. One of my close friends had tears in her eyes at moments of the film. I've only seen her cry one other time, and it was when we saw Crazy Rich Asians (she's first generation Chinese-American… I hope I'm using the right description.) I saw Wonder Woman with a group of dudes, so it was really nice to be able to watch her experience this. Everyone seemed to enjoy it, at the very least.
    4. My only [admittedly minor] gripes: certain things were there as fan service. I think I loved it in the earlier films, but a handful of things felt… unnecessary, more like hat-tip than serious reveals. Examples: The Tesseract being involved. That thing has shown up across so many movies now (more if you include an end credit scene from Thor.) It felt shoe-horned in. It made sense to have it pop up throughout films leading up to Infinity War, but now it feels slightly overkill. The power for the light-speed engine was an opportunity to use something else that could start to unfold across Phase 4 and beyond, so it felt wasted on the Tesseract. One thing I did enjoy: Fury re-naming to "Avenger" initiative based on her call-sign. Pretty cool to know that while Cap was the "first" Avenger (depending on how you look at it) she was the inspiration behind the original cause. I'm sure that's going to be a divisive opinion for some.

I was fine with it, although I was picturing Carol just flying in and punching the shit out of Thanos as her first appearance in the film

Agreed, but at least we know she comes in early, not near the end.

all theses people shitting all over brie for whatever she said is stupid and its not hurting the film like they want. its still gonna have a huge debut like i said earlier. and idk i kinda agree there needs to be more diversity in all films and thats coming from a white dude. black panther and blackkkclasman where huge successes so why not there be more movies like that and more movies with women as major leads and have the story focused around them. im not going to not see a movie over something someone said.

do we know that scene is actually from the beginning of the movie?? it could be a huge misdirect and be in the middle of the film like the scene from civil war they showed at the end of whatever movie came out before that.

You're absolutely right, I could be wrong, but I feel pretty sure, like 75%, that it's going to end up being from the beginning, or at the very least, first 1/3 of the film.

I still suspect End Game will open up on Hawkeye's family dusting in front of him, but it could just be a bit of dialogue later on during the Ronin reveal.

idc lol seeing that scene made me more hyped for endgame. idc when she shows up but the fact she can just show up out of no where is crazy. and speaking of endgame it is done being edited

I went to the theater just to see if I can manage to grab some tickets for today and the 2:30 showing was nearly empty besides maybe like 3 tickets sold.

I of course got my tickets and a decent seat so I’m hyped but it’s pretty disappointing to have it like that on an opening day.

its mid day on a Friday most theaters are empty. the only time you'll ever see a theater packed at this time is Tuesdays for $5 or an avengers opening weekend or the holiday time

I figured I would at least have some difficult getting a ticket but for it to be that empty was just weird.

i just checked times by me for right now and the large format theaters are pretty well sold but the regular ones arent. it is weird but its still gonna prolly be packed tonight. the theater i go to is basically sold out from 7 pm on unless you want front row no matter the type of theater

Yeah, my friend just sent me this text (he lives in LA.) I'm hoping because it's the middle of the day.

all the fandago reports saying it was selling better then like every movie over the last year except infinity war so.... and if i have to go off of what it made last night im sure it will be just fine. plus it has like no competition till either us or dumbo

yeah but endgame is like 3 hours from all the cuts they have shown people and its done being edited so i hope we get an official run time soon so how early is early in a 3 hour film?

I'm not in LA, but in OC the showings that are after work hours are filling up. 9am Dolby was packed and 10am IMAX, which is what I went to, was around 1/3 full. The IMAX rooms are huge though and it was a Friday morning showing, so I think it'll still do well.

I did have a lot of fun watching this though. I gave it a 3.5/5 and can't wait to record a podcast episode about it on Sunday. The de-aging work on this was great. Fury really did look like 90s Samuel L. Jackson. I'm going to need to sit with it for a few more hours though before trying to be more articulate with my thoughts on it.

I also think we'll still get a moment like this when they show up later in the movie. Similar to Thor arriving on Wakanda.
