Rolling out a new Instagram embed system to see if it's any better than the one that kept failing. Best I can tell, it will render videos with a weird height sometimes, but everything else works much better.

Let's see if this works.

Edit: Works on desktop, still seeing errors on mobile for it for some reason. Investigating. The iframe just ... fails?

 

I just toggled prevent cross tracking on and off in settings. And now they load for me.

 

I’ll keep checking to see if it fails again. But they now work for me, and are loading faster.

 

Loads fine on my Galaxy S21

 

Instagram is sending the error by redirecting to a login screen that doesn't allow iFrames every few reloads. Could be cross site tracking related. Very weird.

 

Some more research, seeing this:

The 429 HTTP status means “too many requests” and together with redirect to “login” page it simply means that Instagram is detecting “automated” traffic (from not logged-in user) and “rejects” it.

That's my current best guess of what's happening. Instagram is rejecting the view since they can't track the orgin.

 

Definitely looks to be related to mobile Safari and how Instagram responds to it, thinking it's a bot and trying to make you login, but then not displaying that in an iFrame.

The new embeds are much faster everywhere else. Will look at it more tomorrow to see if I can have a better fail option, maybe just a link to the post?

Even Instagram's own embed system fails on mobile Safari for me about 95% of the time. This is straight from their embed code.

 

Tapping a failed instagram post will now link to the post on Instagram. Current best option I have.

 

@Jason Tate your ads are out of control and this just continues. For someone not privileged to have a subscription to everything, this site is now unusable. Just to write this comment I had to close out and rewrite everything three times because the pop ups opened when I just touched my phone screen to edit a typo.

 

That’s very strange. I don’t think I’ve ever had a pop up on this site…

 

It’s awful. Every time I post on mobile, my keyboard disappears and it tries to open an ad

I came here to say that it used to be bad for me until more recently… and was hit with at least two ads that did this while typing that.

 

The ad company has said they added some fixes, should be disappearing.

 

Please let me know here if they continue.

 

@Jason Tate I renewed my membership last week for the next year. I’m logged in but I’m currently getting ads/can’t see any of the supporter forums & I’m getting the little message to become a member. Posting this here incase anyone else is maybe experiencing the same issue
