I didn't like the first song from this upcoming covers record but mannnn this is a great version of "Amazing Grace". I love how close it's miked -- belongs on a new Horrible Crowes record.

Not a religious bone in my body, but Amazing Grace is one of those that always moves me to tears.

Not really. It was weird, because I remember when The 59 Sound came out it was all the rage and I just couldn't get into it. Then I pretty much checked out all their albums every time they released one because they were all pretty popular or well-regarded 'in the scene' but it just didn't click with me. Then when I randomly stumbled upon Brian's second solo album, I absolutely loved it. So I was like, well surely I'll like TGA now, and it still didn't click. Then I got into his first solo album and liked it even more. Still couldn’t get into TGA

When COVID hit, I was forced to work from home for a few months, and because we have young kids at home, I pretty much locked myself in the basement every day for work and would play music. I purposely wouldn't put on music that I really enjoyed because then I'd just pay attention to the music and not actually work. Somehow TGA kept coming on and I kept checking to see who/what song it was and then I was like 'you know what, I'm just gonna force myself to get into them' and there was like a two-week period where I just spent every day listening to their discography and all of a sudden it clicked.

Fun Fact: Also got into Spanish Love Songs during this time because I would listen to the TGA radio on Spotify and SLS would always come on and got into them right away. A win-win situation for everyone.

I don’t think you need to be religious to appreciate religious things (from many different religions). It’s the one on Divine Night I was most interested in hearing.

I remember first hearing Amazing Grace sung at a funeral when I was young by some older gentlemen. It was a powerful moment that left an impression.

I got into SLS last year too and it was the find of the year. They rule.

To jump on the album rankings…

Local Honey feels like his most concise solo album

Painkillers was just TGA and THC combined.

Sleepwalkers was fine but a bit all over.

I personally don’t find Sleepwalkers all over the place. It feels like a real natural album for him working with a familiar producer, Ted, who also made some Gaslight and Crowes records.

To me Painkillers is a little more all overthannghe other records, but it make sense because he was finding his feet playing under his name and used new songs and Molly songs. It’s not even that all over.

Local Honey is concise and cohesive.

  14. Kind of funny that it's the same openers as the current Menzingers tour, but no complaints from me.

So The Dirty Nil is pretty awesome. I’m a little surprised to see them on there but that’s such a cool opener choice.

    FUCK YES!

  19. Interesting that he's having two rock bands (especially the NIL) for openers, figured he'd go with a more subdued set of openers given the last album. Curious to see if he's going to try and follow their energy with his set or if he's gonna follow up the NIL's rippers with something more relaxed lol.

He says "Looking forward to finally playin' with some amps and drums again" so my guess is he plans to have some energy.

I've never seen Brian or TGA so I am honestly beyond excited for this. Like, can't recall being this excited for a tour announcement in a long, long, long time. Most of the shows I go to now are just bands I've seen several times so this one should be extra special.
