Elantris is great, that’s where I started (since it was the only book out at the time haha), but Mistborn is certainly a better book, and the trilogy especially so. You’ll be fine either way, but yeah, Mistborn will latch into you if you like his style.

Chillin with Bridge 4 at the Worldhoppers Ball.

Spoiler do not read unless you want confirmation of a theory from WH Ball.

Channarach tried to crash the party and Hoid kicked her out and Shallan freaked the hell out.

So uh for those of us posers who didn't have time to do a full reread of the series before W&T, does anyone have a link to a good recap? I found one on YouTube but it's like 3 hours long lol

that’s probably accurate considering the length of the books tho lol

I found a Reddit comment that was a recap of ROW that really worked for me. It took me like 5 minutes to read and it hit all the major points and made me feel like I remembered the book a lot better. Doesn’t help with the first three, but I can DM you the link if you want.

The Summary pages on Coppermind are probably the best, but that’ll still take a long time to read

Wikipedia has excellent summaries (or at least the one from Oathbringer was good).

Stay off Coppermind. Somehow people have already finished this behemoth and started updating pages that still just say “spoilers through Rhythm of War” like douchecanoes.

    Dragonsteel Decompress:

After attending Dragonsteel, what I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt is that Brandon Sanderson cares so much about his fans. This weekend was incredible.

There was a Trading Card game that he created. These cards are bite sized Stormlight stories divided into 54 cards. There is a story about Lopen and Elkohar when he hid him at the end of WoR, one about Jasnah getting back from the cognitive realm, and an in universe children's storybook called Chasmfriends. When I get home I'll take pictures of all of them and post them if people are interested. There was also 9 Herald cards and the back of each card made the tenth unreleased Herald portrait.

The one minus is that they only got 1/2 of their order before the con so all late story cards 48-54 were relatively rare while Herald 7, 8, and 9 were like finding gold. People were trading leather bound books which cost 125 for them which is a bummer. They'll be putting them on sale later and I'm hoping they'll offer a way to order individual cards so I can get the ones I'm missing.

Oh also there were foil variants of every card and certain cards that had a Pure Nonsense stamp that had alternate stories including a whole series of the Chasmfriends 19-27 that formed alternate back art. Oh and each set of 9 has unique back art when displayed together. It's an incredible project, it's just a shame that some cards were super rare as this was not Brandon's aim because he didn't want people selling them on eBay like is already happening.

Beyond that, all the panels were fun that I went to and I got to meet Matt Dinniman of Dungeon Crawler Carl fame and Christopher Ruocchio from the Suneater series. I had countless conversations with people just needing out and discussing our theories and generally having conversations incomprehensible to anyone who hasn't read like over 20 books.

The staff at the event are incredibly helpful and patient. The only minus was the weather because I live in Arizona and stepping outside here was like walking into a refrigerator which also offers problems with packing since my luggage was already full and I'm coming back with a bunch of merch.

The Worldhoppers Ball was fun, might not be for everyone though. They had the entire Kholin family and Kaladin and members of Bridge 4 actors there. There was a cool martial arts display from the Kaladin guy who was doing a bunch of Darth Maul backflips and Sideways twirls thing and 3 "honor spren" who were gymnasts doing aerial gymnastics on loop ropes from the ceiling. Bridge 4 doing a spear kata, and everyone in the family and Kaladin giving a speech. The food was chouta and Rocks stew which was just gyro wraps and rice with shrimp and crab. They had a place where you could burn glyph prayers to Adolin and Shallan, Mayalaran was on a desk on the side and you could touch it and stuff.

I missed the Matt Dinniman / BS recording since he listed it as Intentionally Blank but it was something different.

Everyone at the Con was really nice and everyone just wanted to talk to each other about books all weekend which is a wild experience for someone whose main hobby is reading. Overall a really fun experience for someone like me who is obsessed with these books and reading in general.

TLDR: Dragonsteel was an extremely fun and nerdy experience.

The trading card game sounds really interesting especially the micro stories part.

a hearty (and loving) fuck you to sanderson because a tcg is exactly the sort of thing i don't need to spend money on but will spend A LOT of money on

have not had nearly enough time to read as i'd have liked but towards the end of day 2 i think and wind and truth is excellent so far. after a couple books of, let's say, so-so pacing at best he absolutely nailed this one, a true page turner from the very beginning. lore, twists, more lore, great and sometimes unexpected character interactions, even more lore, already possibly more hoid than the rest of the series combined! great stuff. just gonna sit down and devour as much of this monster as i can today.

I spent hours yesterday cleaning just to keep listening to the audiobook. Watched sports on mute. Just absolutely locked in to this book.

I am so deeply in love with this book. It reminds me of the Rhuidean chapter of The Shadow Rising on steroids.

My book arrived the other day.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve greatly soured on Sanderson and the SLA. I’ll get to this eventually, just not sure when. I’m 3 books into my most recent WoT re-read, and I’ll be sticking with that for some time.

Happy to see people seem to be enjoying it.

I don't want to get too negative here when everyone is enjoying the new book.

So I will just say that Sanderson is the most inventive magic system builder I think I've ever read. Wildly imaginative. But on the whole, his writing doesn't work for me.
