I like Papa Roach as a band name. I also like their brand of shitty mainstream nu-metal more than most of their contemporaries, and the charts seem to agree.

My Spotify Year Wrap Up including Lit Me Up and Cant Get It Out as 2 of my top 5 most played songs of the year. Radiohead was my artist of the year, surprisingly, as I thought it would be BN for sure. Anyway, after seeing it, I was put into a craving to listen to Science Fiction for the first time since the allegations came out. I fought it all day at work, trying to resist Lit Me Up humming, and on my commute home, I listened to How It Feels To Be Something On. Super proud of myself and I think I made the right choice. My last listen to the band was before the allegations and I don't want to taint my memories with the horrible wrongdoings of Jesse Lacey.

I really do recommend anyone who is looking for a substitute for SF to listen to HIFTBSO. The albums share a lot of similarities. It's not super obvious, but you can point a couple parallels to some aspects. Pillars, Every Shining, and The Prophet especially.

Or maybe if we just sat here only thinking/talking about “bigger issues” we’d all be miserable all the time? There are hundreds of pages in BN threads alone on this site of talking about “bigger issues”, it’s fine for things to be more light hearted sometimes (or most of the time) too

I agree with your comparison. I hear the similarities in the rhythm section mostly.
I never listened to this record until it popped up on an article that was written in response to the release of Science Fiction.
The article was tracing the evolution of emo leading up to the release.
I've been playing it regularly ever since. It's great.

I think these lyrics are appropriate:
    "Take the past
Burn it up and let it go.
    Carry on,
I'm stronger than you'll ever know"

I’ve still turned on the Science Fiction CD in my car every few days or so. I still haven’t listened to any of the old songs yet, minus one play of I Am A Nightmare, but I don’t know if that counts.

Idk...i guess it feels like SF came after he apparently tried to make changes and so it doesn’t feel as weird....the other songs it still weirds me out at this juncture. I know someday I will at least return to TDAG because of how much that album means to me, but today is not that day.

I'd love to participate in important discussions more. It's just incredibly difficult right now as a victim of sexual harassment and abuse. I never spoke about my experiences until earlier this year. It's been a process involving realising that I was actually abused, especially emotionally, and trying to recover from it over and over again. It's been difficult watching people I used to be close with disregarding my experiences with abuse and just listening to BN and other bands with abusers. Of course people can do whatever they want but seeing their lyrics on twitter / facebook drags me down a bit. I thought more people would still be horrified by Jesse's actions, but they're being swept under the rug by lots of fans? How can I say I have no hard feelings when they're putting a band's music above supporting victims and changing the scene for better? I can't anymore.

New stories every day have been triggering and I've been attempting to find a way to stay engaged with news while also practicing self care. Still learning that part. Important conversations about platforms of power and rehabilitation need to continue. I don't know where I stand when it comes to whether abusive individuals can or should come back to a position in the spotlight, on a completely personal and selfish level I say absolutely not, and yet, wouldn't banishment do more harm than good? I can't help feeling that abusing your power to hurt others is unforgivable, but also understand if people forgive someone who's done less harm than Jesse has (as long as we all acknowledge that forgiveness from the victims is the only forgiveness that actually matters). I apologise for how scattered this post is. It's been a rough few months.

  18. Yeeesh, why would you do that to yourself.

Eh, I'd say his silence as those he hurt were harassed online and the other "open rumors" floating around now make that not such an easy delineation.
