I really, really love both of these songs. Both connected with me lyrically at different times in my life. Sowing Season hit me at a time when I was deeply depressed, Same Logic/Teeth deals a lot with anxiety at a time in my life where I've experienced some GAD for the first time ever (over the last year and a half). It's pretty crazy how much the tone and lyrics of both these songs connected with me.

I think overall I like the lyrics of Sowing Season more, I like the way Jesse delivers them, I love the spacey, empty room sound that the song has. I don't care that the possibly best lyric of the song was lifted from a Kipling poem, it worked so damn well. And yes, there is a bit of nostalgia here--I was only a marginal fan of the band, aka I knew a couple of songs, until I was recruited to take a couple of girls on my buddy's dorm floor to a concert in the spring after TDAG came out. They opened with Sowing Season, even though I didn't know it at the time. I actually didn't get to enjoy the song much because the crowd started pushing a lot after the first "yeah!" and one of the girls I was with got kicked in the head by a wannabe crowd surfer, so we spent a lot of the song trying to get out of the crowd lol.

But after that concert, I went and bought TDAG and Deja. Threw in TDAG first, and Sowing Season was the first song I heard. That album hit me in literally the most depressed part of my life, probably the only time I could have qualified for clinical depression. Spent many nights driving around at 2 AM screaming along to Sowing Season and the rest.

Same Logic may be a top 5 Brand New song for me now. But honestly it's hard for me to rank songs like that in general. The first 5 songs on TDAG alone are near impossible for me to rank against each other, let alone songs like 1996 or Play Crack or Same Logic or etc.....I love Same Logic, I think I just love Sowing Season a little bit more.

I think Same Logic is just too new right now and I think I like In the Water better off SciFi so I'll vote for Sowing Season even though I don't think it's brand new's best song.

 

Yeah it's crazy to me that Sowing Season may win 'best song' when I still grapple with it being the best song on TDAG lol....sometimes I Think it is, other times i'd rather take Millstone, or Jesus, or Limo....etc

 

for me it's Limo or Luca I think sowing season is probably my 4th favorite on TDAG.

I'm still impressed that a scene band released the albums that are in their discography. just hard to believe where they came from and what they produced.

 

Just call it. It's asinine to vote for a song that just came out a month ago as the best song. I personally like Same Logic way more than Sowing Season, but it's silly to vote for it.

That said consider my vote Same Logic.

I think Same Logic gets so much love because of the little eccentricities in it that are a part of what makes Brand New Brand New (i.e. the opening guitar melody, the delivery of the "At the bottom" line, the screaming, etc.), and it is a great song, but best in their catalog material? That's way too far of a reach. I also don't quite think Sowing Season is the best song this band has written, but it's a song that perfectly sets up the sound of their best album so that counts for something I suppose.

 

Yeah I love Same Logic but with its recency I can't vote for it

agreed. Sowing Season should really win by default because, although SciFi has GREAT songs, I just feel like they're too new to stack up at all in terms of the bands best songs, a month is not near enough time to digest these songs and compare them. I don't know how long it will be before I can honestly compare this to the rest of the bands catalog.
