they haven't re-broken up officially but they aren't doing anything right now since that last split release

that no sleep records tour that drew zero people really fucked up two bands that were great, rescuer and TFC. sigh.

 

Such a shame... I need to check out rescuer though

 

the last record was excellent for a melodic hardcore release

 

I remember when No Sleep was like one of the biggest labels in our little scene. When they put out The Upsides and B&C early releases / Separation and other really popular stuff at the time

 

My history of rock teacher just announced that our final exam will be a presentation in which you have to talk about a band and their impact. If a recent one, why they could be considered a classic in years to come (mainstream or underground)

Hard fight between JEW and BN, but I decided to pick this band because I want to gush about the band's lore and evolution for 15 minutes. It's gonna be fun as fuck. So much to talk about. Deja and TDAG could be talked about for hours on their own, let alone the history behind them.

I feel like I could talk about Brand New for hours, but then as soon as it actually mattered like in a test situation, I'd be like... "Umm... They're really cool..."

 

I just got out of a lecture about Psychedelia and then the professor spent 20 mins talking about how it adapted into the 90s Shoegaze era. Super fun.

I gotta turn in an album review paper a week or two after spring break. Still don't know who yet.

Review my solo spoken word album that I'm dropping next week while on spring break. Each song is just one track, which is my voice

I was thinking earlier that Brand New could really pull off a jazz influenced song

 

I've already known about the project prior as he mentioned in day 1, but today he officialized it. Ever since the beginning of the semester, I've going over what I could possibly say about Brand New.

I have a good idea on how to approach it though. I really wanna show a song off YFW, probably Failure By Design, talk about how they were a pop punk band, and then with no context prior, play Tautou followed by Sic Transit (up until the first chorus) and then talk about how the scene reacted, he band's influences, maybe how Tommy Gun live has the fans more audible than Jesse, etc.

Tdag has so much tho idk how im gonna condense that. I cant even settle on what song to snip from. Cut Limousine up to pieces? Halve the intro to You Wont Know? Play one of the three beginning songs?

And still somehow find time to show bits of a Daisy song, a demo song, and I Am A Nightmare (no time to show Mene even tho i wanna)

I always thought of Jaws Theme and Fork&Knife as kinda jazzy songs.

 

Anyone else a fan of Nightmare of You? I feel like their music is very accessible to Brand New fans.

 

That Peregrine ep is insanely good

 

Their s/t album and Bang are both fantastic
