It blows my mind how big A Day To Remember have gotten. I don't understand it whatsoever.

They've been playing venues way bigger than 2-3K in the US though and have been for years. The last three times I've seen them have been at venues of at least 5K, with the venue in October being 14K (probably about 10K there). Brand New doesn't strike me as a band that is touring for the money or is looking to get more money. If that were the case, they'd be touring more in the US. They could announce a 5K venue tour today at noon and pretty much all the shows would sell out instantly. I'm also betting they've made a lot of money on the last 2 or three tours (this fall tour, the MM tour, and the tour last year).

    It's just odd to me.

I'm fully prepared for the band to stop in 2018, but it also wouldn't shock me in the slightest if they didn't. I just think it's silly for a band in early 2016 to come out and say, 'OK, 2 more years then we're done.' What if 2017 is the best year of their career? What if they release an album with a huge hit single in 2017? What if they become the biggest they ever have been and explode into the mainstream? Not saying any of that would happen, but the fact is, you never know what will happen. It's one thing for a band to announce a final album and tour, but it's another thing for a band to say 2 years in advance that they're done. A band that has been terrible at keeping up with their own timelines/promises.

I mean, I don't know how far in advance these tours are planned but maybe Brand New did the support because at the time they were expecting to have an album to sell. They wanted to get it out to newer audience.

I think this may be likely, originally the album was going to be out by now

What if none of that matters and they just don't want to continue being a band? I keep hearing the "What if they do this....." but I doubt any of that matters to them. I'm sure they've also thought about that.

I don't think it does matter to them. The point was, it's impossible to tell how you're going to feel about something two years from now (and likely more than two years since they made that announcement in early 2016 and will likely tour until end of 2018). So it's silly to make that type of announcement, in my opinion.

I just think that this band has a history of making false promises and timelines, so for them to tell me two and a half years in advance that they're going to stop, I'm going to take that with a grain of salt.

I've said it before, but it seems like they are checking things off their band bucket list:

Tour with Modest Mouse (a huge influence)
    Play Red Rocks
    Play MSG
    etc.

The Biffy shows allow them to play arenas like the O2 (world's largest building by measure of floor space) & the Manchester Arena (highest seating capacity of any indoor venue in the United Kingdom, and second largest in the EU)

They're my absolute favourite band, and there's not a doubt in my mind that they're 100% serious about packing it in by 2018. It's taken the better part of a decade to release even the smallest trickle of new music to us. If it's that difficult for them to settle on material they're comfortable with, it's pretty much a given that they'll do this final album and be done with everything. As much as they may enjoy playing, I can't imagine the immense pressure on their shoulders and how relieved they'll be once this is over and they can take a step back from everything.

Yeah, I agree with you. If anything, the bands fans haven't helped them in that regard, what with the pressure they put on the band.

how much pressure can they be feeling? they're not particularly plugged in, it seems. any pressure they feel is definitely taking a back seat to them just wanting to make something great, imo. seems like the end of them touring was always in the cards -- as far back as the daisy cycle they said they didn't necessarily want to tour forever.

I get what you are saying, but announcing a final album and tour pretty much exactly what they are doing? That's the impression I got anyway, put out 1 more album, and tour as much as possible/ everywhere that they want to play once more and then hang it up.

I mean...They're on their third tour since announcing the 2018 thing and I'm betting they go on 2 or 3 more tours (or at least run of shows) following the one they're on now.

It'd be cool if they did a nice jangle pop album, really mine those Smiths and REM influences
or pull a mwY, give me an It's All Crazy! style thing, yeah.
    I love baseless speculation

Yeeeessss. A post rock album would be cool. I would also dig some emo prog stuff like Cymbals Eat Guitars' Lenses Alien mixed with some Perfect From Now On era Built To Spill.

Exactly yeah, this tour gives them that opportunity. Whilst they played the Wembley Arena, a full tour is a little bit different.
