Jesse has said in the past that the album will always feel incomplete to him. Maybe this is exactly the stretch he had in mind!

The eight song version is one of my favorite albums period, but it feels fake because I cut so much. Wish they had just released it that way originally. That said, most people love those four songs that I can't get through so I guess it's probably better the way it is anyway.

Well, yeah, that's part of it. But I don't enjoy those songs in their own right either.

Doesn't that quote have more to do with the demos for the album having leaked? I could be wrong about that.

    Completely agree. Well said.

Plus, the stripped down version on the Daisy sessions is worth gushing over.

I love the Daisy Sessions so much, goddamn it's good. Bed is underrated in both permutations

Yes, but seeing as Battalions turned into Archers (or was the inspiration for), anything could've happened in the "what if" of the "true" LP3.

Wouldn't change anything about any record they've put out.. Love the progression of their sound

I love TDAG as is, it's my favorite and Daisy is my least favorite.

That being said...if I were to change that album up...I'd probably find some way to take off Handcuffs and untitled, and get 1996, Missing You, and Brothers on there. Good Man I love but wouldn't fit the album at all IMO

You Won't Know is probably one of the all time greatest rock songs for me. And then seeing what it's transformed into live is just unreal. I'd kill for them to record a studio version like they play it live, ~15 minutes, the last 10 being just an absolute chaotic jam session.

Same. The evolution is quite nice. This band's song writing has always seperated them from their contemporaries. They are so musical, versatile, and full of harmony. I used to not "get" some of their songs - on every album I could say, but as I got older, a lot of songs I didn't like finally clicked.

Maybe becoming a musician also helped me "get" this band and that's why I love most of their songs.

Devil and God is their magnum opus though.

Definitely agree with this. Your Favorite Weapon is pretty mediocre but I still wouldn't change it. It shows how far they've come. The only album I think I might ever think about changing is Devil and God. Well, maybe not to change it. But to add on to it or something. I feel like the leaked demos that aren't already on there deserve to be. But that's pretty much it.

One thing you can say about Brand New's discography is the further you get into it, the denser it gets. People don't like Daisy but it's without a doubt their most dense record. It was bound to get mixed reactions from their fanbase. I love that freakin album and the more I listen to it, the more I get out of it.

It occurred to me that a good bunch of the lyrics in Gasoline can be applied as a metaphor to the current state of America, haha.

"So you tried to put a fire out
    But you used gasoline
And when the congregation gathered round
    You're screaming "it wasn't me"
So there's a sickness that is going round
But no one's got a vaccine"

What is Brand New's best lyric even? So many.

Take any one of the " I used to be..." lyrics of Millstone and that's probably my answer. When I first got into TDAG, I was shocked and impressed on how someone could even think those things, let alone say it out loud. It's a piece that always moves me.

Out of Range has some fantastic lyrics I think, including the delivery. Hide in a stork's mouth is a line that for some reason really stuck with me - not because it has any particular relevance to anything but it's just such a creative strange image.

EDIT: I just listened to Coca Cola again for the first time in like 5 years. I feel like this would be fucking intense at a small show, but it's a difficult one to listen to unless you're in the right environment kinda thing? The whole talking whisper vibe would work wonderfully in a tiny, quiet venue.

This describes me 100% I had a burned copy of YFW and stopped at Best Buy on the way home from work. That day was life changing...

My favorite lyric will forever be:

    "In the choir
    I saw a sad messiah
He was bored and tired of my laments
Said "I died for you one time
    but never again"

"Be my serene" is a lyric I'm quite fond of, even if it's very simplistic. I have a Brand New tattoo in mind with the Daisy fox wearing the TDAG mask and I might include that lyric under it to complete the piece.

This stretch is my absolute favorite.

"I know you're coming in the night like a thief
But I've had some time alone to hone my lying technique
I know you think that I'm someone you can trust
But I'm scared I'll get scared and I swear I'll try to nail you back up
So do you think that we could work out a sign
So I'll know it's you and that it's over so I won't even try"

Just hits home for me. Also, the chorus to Missing You. After my Mom passed, for sure.

    "Take all that you have,
And turn it into something you would miss if
Somebody threw that brick, shattered all your plans."

    "Do you miss the blend,
Of colors she left in your black and white field?
Do you feel condemned just being there?"

    Those two always get me.

Have you tried the alternate order to Devil and God, basically starting with Welcome to Bangkok and then ending with You Won't Know? Solves this issue, and is a quite enjoyable listen IMO

I'll try that, but then it seems to me that the album starts off as a total drag with the four songs I don't like.

Never did understand this. The album flows too perfectly as it is to mix up the tracklisting.
