I mean I'm not saying anything here. There was some discussion this week in the Q and A thread in the supporters forum. Anybody is free to go look there for it. It has to do with the term selling out.

Anyways I love Brand New. They don't have to be best friends and love what they do for me to love it.

 

I think this account started when BN began mailing out lyric books (or maybe it was when they were releasing the demos?). It was debunked awhile ago, meaning this is one very committed troll.

 

Stupid post has already been taken down. So much for that.

 

I mean that's not even what I'm referring to. That could have something to do with that. But as it stands that whole story is a rumor so I don't like discussing it. Especially with where these guys are at in their personal lives.

I'm certain it's fake. Last year, they started a cryptic countdown and built up some hype. The countdown led to nothing, confirming it's the creation of somebody who knows nothing more than any of us.

 

Why do people still follow that fake account?

Definitely a good question. They blocked me for pointing out it was fake last year or whatever. Threw a legit comment tantrum. It was funny. They take things people know or guesses and try and get things kinda close. And then if they ever are even 1/8th correct get more people to think "what if" -- it's totally fake and run by someone with more time than brains.

 

That's a dedicated troll. Most people would just call it a day when they are found out. I admire the dedication really

 

Bounced into this thread and saw the Instagram post and got excited until I saw who posted it and now I'm angry all over again because that troll is still around and I've used the word "and" too many time and have created a terrible run on sentence and I'm sorry.

im kind of late to the discussion... but i have a few thoughts i guess after reading the last few pages of this thread.
one, i think everyone needs to remember this moment that happened not too long ago:

Obviously, this band cares about eachother, and obviously they're grateful for the support they get. everyone needs to chill with the whole "Brand New doesnt care about their fans attitude / dont know how to talk to fans"... like... these dudes are just normal freaking guys who play music. They're not celebrities lol. Theyre not trained on how to handle interviews and garbage like that. Do i know them? obviously not - but im willing to bet that they are very normal people, who would carry very normal conversations with anyone. like, when strangers approach them, im sure they handle it pretty much like any of us would.

Also like, if you think their setlist is old / over played / whatever... i dont know, like, dont go to the show i guess? it would be one thing to complain about that if Brand New were not selling out venues in a matter of minutes. but, obviously people still want to see this band. obviously people still want to see them play their songs. And speaking from someone who has seen them play in the past month, these songs still bring electric energy into the crowd. I dont know - maybe shows outside the US are like "better" brand new shows, but i doubt it. Maybe when they come to Canada / the UK, the crowd treats it a little more like a newer setlist because.. well to us, we havnt had the chance to see these sets as much as a lot of you have. i kind of doubt thats the case, im sure the crowd goes wild wherever they go, and screams a long every word (i mean, again they sell out shows in minutes, so im assuming this is the case). For me living outside of the US, i havnt seen this band nearly as much as i would like too. So, when i see comments like "man, i wish theyd either put out a record or just break up, their show is so stale"... its like... well man, screw you. not everyone one the planet who likes this band has seen them play these songs 6 times.

I guess my end thoughts. why do we always act like we're surprised when this band functions the way it functions? I will admit, would i like them to just post a facebook status being like "okay this is what we're doing, this is our plan, etc etc"... yes, absolutely, i would love that... but... thats just not what they do. and whatever, that can be annoying sure. but, its their band.

i get peoples frustration, we love this band and are excited to see if they put out a new album or not. but we (im including myself in this statement) can probably be better at just supporting how they do things and relaxing. after all this is just music. this is just a band. 4 guys that make sounds on a stage. not the end of the world.

 

I kind of just want to jump in and say that I know Brand New has other songs they could play, but we are talking about a band with 4 albums here. They are gonna play extensively from those albums mostly, and there's not a lot of variety they could bring to the set. I see they try their best, but that can't be like Modest Mouse for example and pull out a completely different setlist every single night. I don't know what people expect from their setlists most of the time.

 

Seeing this video again just frustrated me so much, thinking how this thread has been lately. This was a well-needed reminder for the entitled fools repeatedly rehashing 'I'm over Brand New' comments. It's literally like a contest now for people who want to act like they care the very least about Brand New. Take that elsewhere please? Why come to a forum of people that are very clearly passionate about the band to complain about them?

And that is EXACTLY how I feel. Even disregarding me being from the UK - when they HAVE toured here I've sometimes had to miss it because of money or travel. People really need to stop harping on about the set and let somebody who is going to actually appreciate it more go instead if they're just going to complain about it afterwards. I.e - ME!

Side note - I cannot use italics on mobile. I'm really not that emphatic that I capitalise and shout everything.

 

I definitely still care. A lot.

I just wish I didn't sometimes.

I hope to look back at everything in the next year and have some peace about all the seemingly needless anticipation.

 

Haha, I'm definitely not entitled since I couldn't care less if they ever release a new album. I'm just appalled at how douchey they've become about the whole mysterious cryptic whatever shtick.

 

This is an awesome post and sums up my feelings in a much more articulate way than I would have managed. Thank you.



If you're enough of a Brand New fan to hang out in this forum, you should be able to understand that this band will function when it wants to, where it wants to, and how it wants to. If thats too meticulous or annoying for some people, that is fine, but if someone doesn't want to worry about Brand New... I don't know, they just shouldn't. I'm not sure if I understand how the griping I see from a lot of people helps mitigate anything. At this point, I spend so little of my time worrying about what Brand New will or will not do, and that has helped me love the band again. I'm no longer following bread crumb trails to get a scrap of information about them; when they do something, I hear about it from them. And thats enough for me.

(this isn't directed at anyone specific in this thread, but rather the general tone I get from a lot of BN fans.)

 

TLDR: We're sick of your tattoos and the way you don't appreciate Brand New?
