I think I like their mellower stuff most.

Whenever they scream and transition to a distortion-power-chord driven ending, they tend to lose me.

And as a Thrice-head, I'm not averse to this approach; there's just something about their loud sound that doesn't hit me like it should.

The ending of a song like "Limousine" is great as it's dramatic and tense without crossing into that power-chord/screaming angst, something I don't prefer in THEIR case. It walks a fine line.

Jesse's quiet voice is so intriguing to me. He's mysterious and nuanced. But, when he projects, there's just something missing for me. He loses that uniqueness to his voice.

That's why I prefer Dustin Kensrue as he sounds exceptional whether it's a quiet verse or roaring chorus.

Anyway, I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade. I just wish I LOVED all of their work instead of certain songs that are of a certain style.

 

The tension in the first verse of You Won't Know and then how it explodes into the 2nd verse is one of my favorite moments in any song. Same with the Luca bomb

 

The explosive moments of TDAG are probably my favorite part about that album. You Won't Know, Luca, Sowing Season, they all have those explosive moments that help make that record so incredibly good.

 

TDAG is basically an hour-long masterclass on dynamics in rock music. The balance of soft and loud is expertly executed, and creates such a brilliant contrast between the different parts of the songs. It's one of my favorite aspects of the record.

 

And this is why there's negativity on the three new songs we've got from LP5 (presumably).

We're not going to see the same dynamics we had on TDAG, or even Daisy, with LP5. If these songs are any indication.

I don't expect any moments like Sowing Season, You Won't Know, or Luca on anything else Brand New might release. I think I came to terms with that a long while ago.

 

To clarify a previous point, I was mostly referring to the jarring dynamics of Deja. TDAG is definitely a vast improvement as far as not transitioning from a beautiful verse/chorus/bridge to a loud power chord section with screaming. That being said, I still prefer Jesse's quiet vocals to his loud delivery for lack of a better phrase.

 

I think I have a problem - Keaton Henson's new album just became available for preorder, and it took me a whole hour of pacing around my house to buy it. Why? Simply because I was scared that somehow I'd buy it and then Brand New would announce their album/a UK tour/both and I wouldn't be able to afford it. I'm so ridiculously paranoid about Brand New dropping an album and touring here that it's essentially having a negative effect on like 90% of the decisions I make now.

ANNOUNCE SOMETHING SOON FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. PLEASE. END MY MISERY.

 

Yeah I have money set aside specifically for a Brand New Deluxe Album edition announcement.

It's one of those "better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it" kind of scenarios.

I too have a Brand New fund. Like that's a surprise for anyone here.

But it's also a fund for any other entertainment impulse buys.

 

Precisely this. And I dread to think of the moment it gets dropped and I panic buy it, despite the offensive postage, then pray it becomes available in the UK, THEN buy it from here too and have to cancel the original buy. Damn. They need a UK section for the store. Well, they don't. But I'd very much like one.

 

Well, I mean...I bought the album. So there's a level of control here. It's just that I'm overly cautious.

 

Lmao SAME. I just destroyed my music fund on tickets to see Thursday for the first time this December, and quite literally the first thought after punching the credit card number in was "Damn. Forget about Brand New for 2 seconds? Don't worry, there's only going to be a tour+album drop in the next 36 hours probs."

 

Hahaha I live my life in fear. This is too much!

 

Question guys - aimed at supporters/sponsors. If a supporter got wind of information about the album (i.e a date it'll go up for preorder), would it be a case of them getting it first and it being trickled down here later? I don't know. I just keep thinking like, am I missing out on seriously juicy info here being a broke-ass graduate? Plenty of times I've noticed people say 'oh, discuss it in the supporters thread' and I'm sat here like GUYS WHAT IS HAPPENING?!
It's probably shooting myself in the foot by spending more money on something and having less to spend on the album but I'm just hungry for SOMEthing about this album. There's just this dearth of information at the moment and I'm itching for more.

Album was probably shelved with all of their other completed songs.

 

The album will be announced with "The album is complete but we will never release it, suckers!!!! Here is a tour for you guys to sell out"

 

@fenway89 is right, you're not missing much in the way of recent information. We're in the dark same as you. Though @Jason Tate could certainly know more than he's letting on, I think he's just waiting on more information (probably not with as much eager anticipation) like the rest of us. There's surely stuff that he doesn't want to even share with supporters, as you don't get the connections he has by being loose lipped.

I too, don't want to miss the announcement and preorder. I want to be there when it all goes down, and we are much more likely to be close to that now than we have been the past 7 years (well, duh, time and all that), but....

Brand New does what Brand New does, because Brand New does Brand New like Brand New has always been did.

 

Okay but in regards to a release date, should Jason stumble upon one before it's announced officially...is that like a case of supporters will know first kinda thing? Yes I know - I'm a paranoid fucker. But my god I just need to bloody sleep at night hahahaha

 

So those Ticketmaster vouchers are applicable to the Brand New show right that's 20 minutes away... looks like I'll be seeing Brand New if I can make sure I'm free that day.

 

I'd imagine he'd probably drop it into the Supporter thread first, but that may be something he'd probably try to secure for a Chorus.FM exclusive story of some sort. We know the kind of traffic such an announcement would bring.

I wouldn't fret too much about it. Says me, who will probably fret about it by tomorrow.

 

knowing the release date before it's officially announced won't really help anyone... it's not like they have exclusive access to a preorder or album stream. seems like you're losing sleep over nothing.

plus r/brandnew will probably be all over that shit when it leaks out anyways.

 

I mean, I was more thinking along the lines of supporters knowing when a preorder link would be dropping, being ready for it, whereas non-supporters in this case wouldn't.

 

I doubt his information would ever be that specific.
